Allowing a few unlocks?

That thing annoys me so much. My team always chases me around with it, pre-game. ARGH THE NOISE!!!
Also… sometimes what people come up with, in regards to unlocks is so dumb.
I remember people saying, FaN is overpowered!!
… then use it and prove that it makes the scattergun a non-viable option.

OR they do try and use it, and suck with it.
A lot of players, especially the top level players, will argue that an unlock is overpowered, yet given the choice, they still choose to never use it. Most of the time, it’s not even overpowered, it’s just they know they will never use it (because they don’t want to), so why allow someone else to? Maybe someone else becomes better with the new unlock than they were with the stock one, and that puts the players who don’t ever want to use anything other than the stock weapons, in a situation where others could gain an advantage from it, but they have nothing to gain.
This was pretty much proven with the FaN. At first it was deemed overpowered, the issues were highlighted (making people stop dead with 1 medium range pellet hitting them), valve addressed the issues, and everyone turned around and went, “Ahh… well it’s still lame”. It’s actually the same with a large number of unlocks that people considered to be overpowered.
Also, take the quickfix.
In all the one night cups where quickfix was allowed, it was barely used by anyone. Overhealing is so important that it is actually rare that anyone could see any use for it. Yet it still got banned? I personally thought that gun was more of a public weapon. 9v9 it should work very well, as you have a large number of players you need to heal rapidly. But why not at least allow it in 6v6, for the one of two teams that might decide to base a strategy around it? It is a medic unlock afterall :)

Exactly this. Vanilla TF2 is best TF2 and medlocks are important too. All reskins should be allowed too and everything is fine.
In this case, I’d say that reskins should only be allowed if they are a direct reskin and have absolutely no effect on gameplay. The original would not be included as it changes the firing mechanism of the rockets. The easiest option would be to just ban all reskins. Keeps the rules simple.

My comment had 0 to do with unlocks, so your argument is even better. I was talking about playstyle, it doesn’t matter what unlocks we allow or don’t allow, EU still plays like pussies.

The problem with the “it sucks so why not allow it?” argument is that you can say that about a lot of unlocks. If you were to allow all of these shitty unlocks and ban the good, or overpowered ones, you’d create a high amount of inconsistency in the game, which is not fun since this promotes gimmicky play over skillfull play.

EU relies so heavily on uber advantages and disadvantages and never uses anything else, everything revolves around the medics/demos and the other classes are just there for the pushes and aren’t used effectively, they just stand around building uber/watching a doorway instead of doing something.
For example: The age old granary stalemate, no one ever pushes to mid because that can essentially lose you the entire round. People are afraid to lose that round because it will just put them a round behind meaning they’ll be in the same situation, it’ll cause you to be more stalemate like and people prefer to keep a small advantage than to push and gain a bigger advantage(this i think relates to the “difference of 5” rule over the “first to 5 rule” because its much easier to sit and stalemate at 3-1 3-2 for 30 minutes than it is t o sit at those scores for 1 hour). We rely on the enemy to make a mistake instead of forcing them to make a mistake or relying on our own tactics/skill to win. It’s boring to watch and boring to play, there are rays of light and a few teams are deciding to play more offensively and aggressively and it’s somewhat working but it’s this passive play style that’s causing people to stop playing, or so I’ve been told by a few higher div friends that are bored of the play style (hi huhy <3) and just don't enjoy playing the game.
Unless people start playing more aggressively or adapting better more people are gonna get bored and THAT will kill the game, unlocks or no unlocks, equalizer or no equalizer, it won't make a difference unless we start using every class effectively and stop relying on uber constantly.
At least, that's my perspective from comparing top EU teams playing and top NA teams playing.

Called playing smart, not being pussies.
Only thing I’d like to see more is teams try and walk there way through choke points without using an uber or trying to push unubered, least by gambling one player to see if there is any ground to be taken, damage to be dealt which can enable a push.

I didn’t say i wanted anything, i don’t care either way about unlocks, I’ll probably still use vanilla load out regardless just like when we allowed everything. I honestly don’t think that unlocks are the problem, just peoples attitudes.
