Aoshi Leaves the (Space)Ship
March 28, 2021
Hello and goodbye everybody,
All things must come to an end and so does my time as ETF2L admin.
After being administrator for the League for the last six years, a quarter of my life, overseeing fourteen highlander seasons, eighteen sixes seasons and countless cups (including various LANs), I have had the opportunity to learn so much (and make so many mistakes while doing so).
So, firstly, I wish to thank all of you for this amazing opportunity that has truly been a one of a kind.
I will be leaving you all in the care of Sodium, who will be my successor as Head Admin. I have full confidence in him and the rest of the staff and wish them all the best.
With that out of the way please read the following as my one selfish request of the community.
Although I wished to be leaving with smiles and waves, instead I’m leaving saddened. I’m not leaving due to my passion for TF2 and the community having died out. Nor is it due to me having achieved a specific goal or lack of time. I’m leaving disappointed within the community due to its ever growing immature behavior as well as my own inability to steer it in the right direction. I feel like spending the amount of time that I do is not worth it, as it only brings me stress and sadness.
I joined staff back in 2015 with the idea of contributing to a community that I loved with all my heart. I had found a passion that I truly cared about. Over the years, I have only felt myself get pushed out of the community that I cared for while being berated for trying my hardest. Spending countless hours making tournaments, resolving conflicts, helping new players and much more, only to be called incompetent and lazy.
This community has taken the stance that consistently insulting its contributors is acceptable behaviour, even going so far as making personal attacks until they effectively bully out the very people that keep this community alive.
I have seen a lot of people with passion and love get pushed away by this community just for trying to contribute.
I hope that this self destructive behavior within this community can one day change for the better. I hope that the community will reflect on this, and that in the future, players will treat both each other and community contributors with greater kindness and respect
I don’t want this post to just be negative. So, I want to give a shoutout to every admin I had the pleasure to work with. You are part of what made this experience as amazing as it has been. Even those who didn’t make it past their trial period as you showed me the love that some of you have towards this community.

One final shoutout to the amazing teams and people I got to meet. In particular Good Enough, Tracksuit Boys and The Zoo.
So again, thank you all. The amount of amazing things that this community has been able to accomplish without external support is truly one of a kind.
I hope that one day I’ll be able to look back at my time within the competitive community in a positive way.
Goodbye,
Aoshi

Signed in for the first time in like 2 years to post this. Thank you for your incredible amount of voluntary dedication to this league.
Much love, brother. See you soon
much love to you <3
I will miss you Aoshi and think of you in a semi sexual way.

😢
playing with you and the other Belgian gamers that one season for HLNC in 2017 was some of the most fun I’ve had in this game
if it weren’t for people like you who actually tried to take initiative to contribute to this community, this game/league would have probably died ages ago
thank you for the time you put in and good luck in your future endeavours :)

Funny story I had with Aoshi, and basically my only interaction with him:
At i65, I was wandering around the LAN and one of the french players needed help.
Their PC had problems booting up, so I decided to go get Aoshi from his desk duties over to this player’s pc – turned out, he has a USB stick connected. Once the chad Aoshi removed it, the PC worked fine
What a legend

hi aoshi
goodbye Aoshi, best of luck in future, and thanks for being our admin <3
Enjoy your well deserved retirement, buddy. Welcome to the admin graveyard!
Now it is Sodium’s turn to ruin everything. Good luck!
Sad to see you go but understandable
Aoshi did in fact not destroy everything, thanks for everything #broshiarmy :)

Thank you Aoshi
Thanks Aoshi!
It’s difficult to hear the silent appreciation of the majority and weigh it against the loud and constant whining of a comparative few. The work of all the admins in organising and ensuring the longevity of this league on a voluntary basis is a wonderful thing and certainly deserves more praise.
Without exaggeration I can say I have made some great friends and some great memories from my participation in this league, and none of it would exist in the first place without the work of many volunteers.
So, thank you Aoshi for supporting TF2 all this time, and thanks to everyone who continues to give their time and energy so we can enjoy this league.
Thanks for all the time you’ve put into not only ETF2L but also several lans
Hero gamer works an extra job for free, fueled by passion alone.
I hope you know I have nothing but respect for how much you’ve done for this community.

eh
Thank you Aoshi <3
I still remember asking you just around a week after you finished your trial back in 2015 and became a league admin if the league was taking in new trials even if ETF2L didn’t have a post open for it at the time, had I not done that I wouldn’t have been able to have you as the best workmate possible.
That being said though, I fully do understand the amount of frustration that comes with the task to take care of a community like this. The work of an admin anywhere, everywhere, is something people simply don’t take for granted enough and expect all of the work to be done from somewhere else other than from the heart, and when you finally finish up on your work that’s the only time people will thank you for your time, not during it when it matters a lot more.
I really hope for the best to your future, Aoshi. Thank you for everything.
And I also wish the best to all current league admins, anti-cheat staff and especially Sodium.
i can’t blame anyone for the toxicity forcing them out – thanks for your stewardship despite it <3
thanks for everything Aoshi <3
sad to see the events turn out like this aoshi :(
godspeed for what life has coming for you <3
I can only echo what Admirable said. The vocal minority can really weigh you down and is difficult to ignore sometimes. After a while, you’ll fondly remember the positive experiences you made. Thanks for your contribution over the years.
I think a great part of the community really enjoys etf2l and is grateful for it, it’s just not said, as very often, only the negative is spoken. Thanks :)
Damn, sad news. I really enjoyed all the hard work you have put into tf2 and i appreciate all the times you have admin’d (ETF2L, LANs and others).
Wish you all the best in your future endeavors and thank you for everything!
my man litteraly resurrected the etf2l website
godspeed tupac waiting for you in admin Jannah
Thank you Aoshi for all the effort that you put into this community! Gl to Sodium and the rest of the team!
Proud of my Belgian boys!
Thank you Aoshi <3
Thanks for all your work mister admin man!
Where’s my banpost tho?
Another ef2l admin dead inside. It will be with you all. Delete tf2 before tf2 delete u
I will take your request to heart, Aoshi. Gaming communities are and should be places where we can laugh together and enjoy ourselves. There will always be some degree of negativity, but we have to take care not to take it out on each other, or let it overshadow the fun of playing together and benefits of having a shared community.
Thank you for your hard work through the years. I have gained a lot playing in this league, and am thankful for you being one of the people who have given me this experience. Best of luck in your future endeavours!
When u were a trial admin u complained about the back-end, when u were an admin u complained about and worked on that back-end, when u were head admin u complained about and revived the backend. RIP ETf2l back-end. Was fun playing with ya.
its all the new mongs in etf2l discord shame on you all
Thanks a lot aoshi! I can’t remember a time when you weren’t head admin :( sad days that you had to quit because people aren’t mature enough to understand how much time and dedication it takes for you.
Full heartedly understand your point.
I fucking appreciate you dude. Really sad to see you go.
Please fare well, I wish you the best.
THANK YOU for all the years you have put in to make this league better.
First you guys put this league in position like this and now you bail…
where ma medals att???nieafsihjfsifs??
Thanks for everything you’ve done for the community and for the work you’ve put in it. From the side of a retired staff member I can tell you’ve been working very hard on your position. Farewell!
huh – welcome to the admin graveyard ;)
I fully understand your reasoning, when I left I had a similar feeling but probably different circumstances. At some point it was just time to face it and call it quits. Nevertheless thank you for all the time and effort :)
You are still my favourite french admin ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
