i49 Fundraiser Showmatch #2 on Sunday: HRG vs broder

Date May 16, 2013

As most of you probably already know, TeamFortress.TV is organising a fundraiser to send over the ESEA Season 13 winner USA High Rollers Gaming to the Multiplay insomnia 49 LAN in Telford, UK, at August 23-25.

UnitedStates mana left us with some information on one of the last steps to the success of the fundraiser.

The Team Fortress 2 community is sending USA High Rollers Gaming to the i49 gaming festival in Telford, England to compete worldwide. This second showmatch is between the aforementioned HRG and the ETF2L Premiership Runner Up Swegian broder.

We will see veteran demomen USA b4nny and Sweden ryb face off as scouts Finland cookye (aka cookye) and Sweden bybzii duel USA HRG’s USA bloodsire and USA shrugger, while USA lansky and Sweden Zebbosai throw down in rockets and shotgun casings and Sweden jukebox and USA tagg roam and bomb. Both milkmen medics Latvia Mirelin and USA shade are going to be put to the test.
During the stream, 2 unusual hats will be given away. One goes to the person donating the 10,800th dollar (the goal of the fundraiser) and one to a random viewer.

Stay tuned for the action on Sunday at 21:00 CEST, with camera work done by our famed cameraman Lithuania huhystah and casting by the venerable USA Salamancer and Ireland Admirable

An Icelandic server would solve it (or west-Greenlandic,but I don’t think such servers even exist), search for one :P

  13. Godof said:

    East-Greenlandic*

There actually are server farms in south west Greenland (Nuuk). You can find them on speedtest.net or pingtest.net.

The ping is surprisingly okay (I ping about 80), but I’m sure there’s no established TF2 servers. Would be an interesting experiment to set one up.

  15. Godof said:

If the Greenlandic server idea won’t work out, there are Icelandic servers for sure (at least 8 from my google search). Just need to talk to their host,I guess.

  16. Kerch said:

There’s a chance traffic from US to Iceland would get routed through Europe and therefore give terrible ping. I’m guessing it would be worse for the US either way.

    Check out this map: http://www.submarinecablemap.com/

Just remember that a 2D map is quite distorted and makes the route through Greenland look longer than it really is. I actually think Greenland could work, but setting it up is a different matter.

  17. Kerch said:

Just to explain what I mean about the 2D map being distorted, the red line on the following map marks the true shortest route between San Francisco and Paris:

Greenland is actually the perfect geographical location for NA vs EU games. It’s purely technical issues (routing/hosting) that make it impractical.

Anyway, I think we may be over-thinking this :p

  18. Godof said:

Maybe we can get an American guy to test his ping to Iceland, before jumping to conclusions about bad routing, because we can’t really know until we check.

But yeah, no one said they’re going to even think about playing the game in a not EU/NA server yet,so we’re just kinda talking to ourselves now ^^

It might work. Icelandic/Greenland would be best based on the worldmap of optical viber networking for scandanavion people. Allthough I have no idea if there are some polarbear out there, that play pub servers.
