Sunday Night Showdown

Date November 22, 2009

Illegal vs Team Dignitas

European Team Dignitas look to secure their fifth ETF2L league title tonight as they face Finland Illegal. Illegal need to win both maps tonight to stay in the title race.

Illegal have had an impressive debut Division 1 Season, enjoying surprise wins against elite teams Finland Power Gaming and European Team YoYoTech. But it’s not been without its difficulties as they dropped a map to European I Don’t Know? who have been experiencing line-up problems all season. And to beat Dignitas over two maps, who have been in imperious form all season long, will require another leap from Illegal.

Will Finland Hocz continue to make a case for player of the season or will Sweden Appe play hard to shut him down? How will Finland Rebeli fare against his old team? Will we see Illegal’s new scout addition Finland Fluffy play with the same level of confidence as we saw versus Power Gaming? Tune in tonight to find out, and perhaps more importantly, see Dignitas become the first team to win the three-peat of league titles.

Nations’ Cup Final: Finland vs. Sweden

Date November 19, 2009

Tonight perennial tournament favourites Finland Finland will defend their trophy against their strongest and, seemingly, only serious competitor Sweden Sweden in the 2nd ETF2L Nations Cup Final. With thirty countries participating this was the largest nations cup ever organized in the Team Fortress 2 scene. After a group stage and three matches in the play-offs only two countries remain to face each other in a thrilling best-of-three match.

In the first Nations Cup, Finland and Sweden faced each other in the semi-finals where Finland showed that they were the better team in two maps, before going on to beat Belgium Belgium in an easy final (3-0). This year Belgium was kicked out by Germany in the first round of the play-offs, while Sweden sent Germany Germany home (2-0) one round later in the Quarter Finals. Neither Finland nor Sweden have had too many difficulties making their way to the final. However, they both faced some resistance in the semi-finals in the form of Norway Norway and England England respectively, but in the end both Finland and Sweden managed to win these matches in only two maps.

Line-ups

The roster of the Swedes is almost identical to that of last year, with players from top teams like Team Dignitas, Power Gaming and the former Team Coolermaster. Team Finland takes their players from the same range of teams: Dignitas, Power Gaming and illegal, however, they have lost two players from their old roster. Whether this will have a significant impact on their performance against a team like Sweden remains to be seen.

Finland Finland: Agron, Darn, hocz, hymzi, Rebeli, Haza
Sweden Sweden: appe, bybben, lezek, ryb, weqo, wltrs

Season 6: the last weeks – New recruitment system – KotH: Round 3 – Gravelpit Stickybomb Bug

Date November 15, 2009

Season 6: general match deadline

By Sunday December 6th at 23.59 CET, all normal Season 6 matches have to be played and the results submitted. All matches without submitted results will receive a 0:0 result on both maps. This is a solid deadline that will not change and cannot be crossed. In the week from December 7th to 13th all place deciding matches will be played between teams who are tied in points for promotion/demotion positions.

  • General match deadline: Sunday, 6th December, 23:59 CET

Season 6: team rosters locked from Week 9 onwards

On Monday November 23rd at 00.01 CET, the roster from all teams participating in Season 6 will be locked. This means you will be unable to add new players to your team’s roster from that day until the end of the season. In case you wish to use a new player after that date, all rules concerning the use of mercs/ringers apply: make sure you ask your opponent for permission.

  • Deadline for roster changes: Sunday, 22nd November, 23:59 CET

New recruitment system

Our boys over at the website development department have created a neat new recruitment system. Through the new recruitment page on your personal dashboard you can add a new recruitment post. You have to enter your own skill level, your favourite class(es) and a short description of who you are and what you are looking for. All new posts will automatically be added to the overview, which you can sort on skill, country and class(es). The old Player Recruitment Forum has been closed.

We believe this new system will make your search for a new team or player a lot easier. If you have any questions or notes regarding this new system, please contact the ETF2L staff on IRC. You can find the list of recruitment topics here, or through the “Info” button on our main menu on the website.

King of the Hill cup sponsored by n1ping: Round 3

In our 4on4 KotH cup, thirty-one teams have reached the third round and have got a new opponent to face. One match from the second round still has to be played. The teams in the third round are another four matches away from the final, so there will be plenty of action in the upcoming weeks. Below you can find the deadlines for the matches from round 3. An overview of the tournament tree can be found here.

  • Schedule Deadline: Wednesday, 18th November, 23:59 CET
  • Match Deadline: Sunday, 22nd November, 23:59 CET

Gravelpit: Stickybomb Bug

Due to some issues on the stickybomb bug on gravelpit, we added the following rule to make clear this is an illegal map bug:

1.4.11 cp_gravelpit: The stickybomb bug on gravelpit is not allowed

You are not allowed to put stickies under cp A and damage targets through the floor.

New calendar schedule system.

Date November 13, 2009

New calendar schedule system

Today we introduce a new calendar system on our website. Previously, one team leader had to enter the match date and time after both teams had agreed on a date. This lead to some problems now and then with users entering dates without having the opponent’s approval. For the admin team, this was hard to track. Therefore we have created an approval system for the calendar.

From now on this system has to be used for all matches.

This is how it works:

  1. A leader of team A enters a desired date into the calendar. (This works in the same way as you were used to entering dates into the calendar)
  2. A leader of team B sees the proposed date and can either accept or reject it.
  3. If the date is accepted, it gets added to the calendar and the date becomes final.
If the date is rejected, the leader of team B (or the leader of team A) can propose a new date, which the opposing team leader can accept or reject.
  4. This goes on until a date is accepted.

Seeing new schedule proposals

There are several places where you can see if a new schedule proposal has been made by one of your opponents.

sched2

This new sidebar widget positioned above the sponsors list, will appear whenever you have 1 or more new schedule proposals waiting for you.

Note: Unanswered ladder challenges will from now on also be displayed in the same place.

On the calendar page you will find a new section Schedule proposals, directly under the Add Event section. Here you can accept/reject any proposed dates. In the example below you can see that Moose suggested to play this match on 4 November, but that was rejected. Instead, Albert suggested to play the 15th. Moose can now choose to accept or reject this date.

sched3

As a final note: this system is meant as an addition to contacting your opponents to talk about a match date and not a replacement.

VAC Bans now enforced; some more cheaters

Date November 9, 2009

VAC Bans:

Our new policy of banning those with a VAC ban on their Steam account is now being enforced, affecting over 80 players. As we said previously, to prove that you can play on a secure TF2 server, and therefore in the ETF2L, please contact an AC admin by the “!acrequest” command. Those banned will not be eligible for any ETF2L events until November 2011.

The list of VAC banned players who haven’t contacted us to verify their account should be available here soon.

More Cheaters Banned:

It is again with disappointment we add some new names to the list of known cheaters:

Each of these accounts will receive a 2 year ban.
