Summer flavours

Date May 30, 2011

Summer 2011

We have decided to not run a league season during the summer of 2011. It didn’t really work last year, and we don’t think that a summer league this year would fare any better.

We do however have other plans. We read our forums and do our best to consider your feedback. Over the course of the summer months, we will provide a number of smaller tournaments for teams to play a little more light-heartedly than a normal 6v6 Season.

The first event we have planned is a Kritzkrieg-only cup, in which the Medigun will be banned from play and the focus will be on the use of the kritzkrieg in different skill levels (more on this in a news post soon!).

After 2 fun cups and the great success of our Highlander Challenge, we have decided to continue hosting highlander games. We will have more details on a new event soon, that will offer some great games for everyone in a relaxed environment.

Admin changes

With great joy we wish to welcome Netherlands RaCio back to his Head Admin position. Additionally, Scotland Crasp is promoted to a Head Admin position, where he replaces England Dave.
We would like to thank Dave for the efforts he has put in. Congratulations and the best of luck to Crasp!

Season 10 – September

The next ETF2L season will take place after the summer, with a number of improvements over Season 9. One such improvement is the map pool, which will be changing with the help of community votes and high level input. We have yet to finalise almost every other aspect of Season 10, for various reasons. We’ll do our best to keep you abreast of developments in that regard.

We’re also working on some other improvements, as well as keeping an eye on the ideas put forward in the forums.

Season 9 Extension Week, Rosters Locked, Playoffs

Date May 21, 2011

Extension Week

In order to give teams the chance to play all their games, we have decided to add an extra week onto the end of the season. This means that all regular season games must be played by 5th June. However Week 9 Default Dates will still be given on Monday for the period of Week 9 if the game hasn’t been scheduled by then. No one will be forced by default date to play in the Extension Week, it will only be used if both teams agree to play in it.

Rosters Locked, Wildcards Disabled on Monday

As part of standard season policy, the rosters are locked and wildcards no longer count at the start of Week 9. This means that you cannot add new players to your roster, any player you wish to play who is not on your roster by Monday 23rd May will be counted as a merc with the standard merc rules applying. The rosters will remain locked until the end of the playoffs. Any wildcard used will be ignored and the original scheduled match date will still stand.

Playoffs

After the catchup week, playoff fixtures will be generated. The first batch of fixtures will be for teams that finished on equal points, to decide final positions (only where these positions are vital to decide who is promoted / relegated). After that, any playoff games from one division to another will be played, together with the Premiership playoff mini-tournament to decide the overall season winner.

Custom Map Cup – cp_grack_b9 Roundup

After a hectic evening, the winners of Wednesday’s Cup were European Spam Effect. Congratulations to them! For everyone who took part, please leave feedback on the map thread regarding what you liked/disliked about the map. These competitions are crucial in getting map makers the feedback they need to improve upon their maps.

ETF2L Ladders Temporarily Closed

Finally, we are shutting down the 6v6 and Highlander Ladders to allow coding work to be undertaken on them. Once these improvements have been completed, the ladders will be re-launched.

i42, ESH and some General Reminders

Date April 30, 2011

Alternative names for this newspost included “I can’t think of a name for this newspost” and “It’s sunny inside so I thought I’d stay in and write this newspost”, and we almost resorted to asking you lot to name it for us. Anyway…

i42 LAN

Many thanks to those who attended i42, especially to  Tapley and the rest of the TF2 admin team there. The top 3 TF2 teams were:

Infused.Tt

Team Thermaltake

Children of Poop

Infused took a surprisingly comprehensive victory over their Thermaltake companions to win the top prize of £1,350. Other highlights included an incredible game on viaduct between Intensive Noobs and mixteam Flanks* and Gamesense, going right down to the wire. VODs of both of those games and more can be found at tf2tv.com.

Tickets are now on sale for the next Multiplay LAN, i43, set for August 26-29. Currently tickets are available at a 20% discount, though not for long! More details can be found here.

The latest offering from ESH

Signups are still open for the Tt eSPORTS TF2 Challenge, for a chance to win $500! Tt eSPORTS “went huge” at i42, with both of their sponsored teams reaching the TF2 final, now they want to give us some of their free money for free! Check out the rules page here, then go here to sign your team up! Do it!

General Reminders

SCHEDULE AND PLAY YOUR WEEK 5 MATCHES! It is in fact time to start scheduling your week 6 matches too! This newspost is so late that it’s even time to think about your week 7 matches!

Turbine rules reminder

We’ve noticed quite a few teams struggling with our rules for ctf_turbine_pro. These rules can be found in the General Rule 4.8

Turbine is not played in a “Best of 3, timelimit 10” format in ETF2L. The ctf ruleset for ETF2L has been designed to reduce the odds of a draw to a minimum.
The regular etf2l.cfg sets the server variable “tf_flags_per_round” to “5” and the timelimit to 30 minutes.

You need to capture 5 flags in one round to score a point. If a team scores 2 points, that team wins. In order to stop the game when one team scored 2 points, you can set “mp_winlimit” to “2”.

In case both teams have an equal amount of points on the scoreboard when the timelimit is reached, the team with more flag captures in the final round wins. In that case, you need to submit 2 screenshots: One of the scoreboard showing that the teams are tied and one where you can see the amount of captured flags.

In the rare case that the amount of captured flags in the final round is equal as well, you have to play a golden cap round. Set “mp_timelimit” to “0” and “tf_flags_per_round” to “3“. The first team to capture 3 flags, wins the golden cap round.
Only tick the golden cap box if the latter happened. You will have to submit 3 screenshots if you played a golden cap on turbine: One of the scoreboard showing that the teams are tied, one where you can see the amount of captured flags and one screenshot with the golde cap round score.

(Sadly) a Ban

The player Poland Lukas will be banned from now until the end of the season for abusing the leader rights of another team.

We’d like to clarify further confusion regarding the ban of ForzaEagLE and co., which looked like it would expire this weekend. Their ban was for the whole of Season 9, so the bans will be extended up to that point.

Wildcarded/Unplayed Matches

Some of you may have noticed Default Dates appearing on wildcarded matches. We will add a Default Date to a wildcarded match one week after the wildcard was taken, if the match is still unscheduled. We hope this will reduce the number of matches left unplayed until the catch-up week.

We will also give warnings to any matches which haven’t been played or scheduled after the Match Deadline has passed. These warnings can be easily removed once the match has been played, provided you contact us at that point.

*Thanks ilike2spin!
