HELLO :)
I’m a med main and I want to get better at scout, so I’d like some tips on scout in 6s and improving your aim as scout.
pls help friends :)
And yes I know: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SlCRfTmBSGs but maybe something else that could IMPROVE the practice?
Last edited by MARKO,
get 600 fps and 120hz.
other than that just practice.
cl_interp 0.037 on console
minimum settings ( only if you have caveman PC like me :^) )
disable viewmodels on your scattergun and keep your crosshair chest high
practice your tracking on tr_aim -> http://tf2.gamebanana.com/maps/94902
play scout v scout on MGE
watch demos of prem scouts to learn positioning etc. play dm 24/7.

Why?
In certain occasions (commonly on pub servers), when you hit someone with a hitscan weapon the game sometimes doesn’t register it, nullifying the action of actualy damaging the target (this includes in other aspects of the game), this is because your cl_interp (interpolation) takes either too long to process or is 2fast2quick and decides to skip it. Decreasing it (but not too much) can narrowly improve how smoothly the game runs.
I am not sure if the command still works though, I think I remember there being some sort of ‘nerf’ to it a while back.

I’ve heard that 0.033 is mainly what most people use for hitscan. However, I use 15.2 lerp (cl_interp .0152). I have been using it on every class for a while and I’m not really sure if it’s the best idea to switch between those two?

play dm 24/7.
Do you guys know of any crowded dm servers?
Last edited by MARKO,
might need to change the region but use http://teamfortress.tv/servers to see most of the dm/mge/other servers

cl_interp should be set at multiples of 0.01515 (or whatever value you get from dividing cl_interp_ratio with cl_updaterate), so most people use 15.2 ms or 33.3 ms interpolation with cl_updaterate 66, this is mostly personal preference. The benefits you get from the higher number is that you can drop a packet without hitching, while the lower number presents with more real-time hitboxes since they are at an earlier position.
And no, having it too low doesn’t skip anything. The reason you are not hitting doesn’t actually have anything to do with the interp at all (unless you dropped a packet), so it’s mostly a placebo effect.

Wait a minute…
You want to get better, you know that practice is the only way, and yet you come here asking for help. Am i missing something here?
I feel like dm is good to learn movement patterns but for warmup I like tr_walkway and doing the thing where you track bots as they go on the launchpad.
Watch some demos see where scouts position themselves and what they do in certain situations but most of all just play scrims.

That’s a blog by War about aiming. He also links to a (long) video he made prior to writing said blog.
Though he says that the video is messy and he describes it all in the blog anyways, watching the video illustrates what he describes in the blog nicely, so I’d advise you to watch it regardless. I personally thought that the blog did not quite adequately describe what he showed in the video, so you’ll get most out of watching and reading.
