Build a new computer, was wondering if anyone knew where I could get the cheapest possible copy of windows 7.
Try and find a mate that works in windows. Got my copy of windows 7 for £20.
Also if you can find Windows ultimate N sometimes a bit cheaper.
The used to be some student deal where you could get it for £30, not sure if that’s still going on though.
if you’re at university you may qualify for MSDNAA which allows you to get windows 7 and other Microsoft software for free.

Reminded me of dreamspark, however they do not supply you with the platform itself. Never actually heard about MSDNAA, will check it out later.

£40 for W7 Pro if you have or know someone with an NUS card.
You can either download the ISO from them or have it posted free. With the download option at least you have to upgrade from an existing version of Windows, it won’t work from boot (or at least mine didn’t). But you do get a totally valid, working Windows 7 serial key emailed to you. Then you can download a bootable ISO from here http://downloadsquad.switched.com/2009/10/28/direct-download-ISO-dvd-for-windows-7-student-upgrade/ . This is exactly how I installed Windows 7 just over a week ago and it’s been trouble free so far.
Edit: And it is legal, those iso’s were released by Microsofr themselves for this function

If you have an upgrade disc and a fresh/clean drive, then you can install it via the ‘double install’ method.
1) Install Windows 7 to the hard drive, via the standard procedure of booting from disc. Choose “Custom Install” at the menu prompt. Follow the installation through but do not enter the serial key at this time.
2) Once you’re at the Windows 7 desktop, you can load the Windows 7 setup from disc and choose the “Upgrade” option. This time when it gets to entering your serial key, input the one that was given to you with your upgrade media.
Now you have a brand new Windows 7 installation :)
after using windows for years without paying you might as well fork out some money to bill (((

Torrents are you joking? pfft, unreliable and need the beast of a download.
Been told otherwise from someone who I’d say knows more than you in this area (don’t mean anything by that btw before you get all hostile).
In fact, they said you recieve less problems from a pirated version as long as you use a decent crack.
I’ve had absolutely 0 problems, no popups or whatever as someone else has said and it works perfectly.
And since when is around 5 gigs a beast of a download?

Please bear in mind that piracy is illegal and promoting piracy will not be tolerated in this forum. I do not want to have to lock the thread before Crashsite gets what he is asking for :(

I am slightly confused, is an upgrade version needing a previous version of Windows, as I have bought a new hard drive and I don’t think I have the Vista (yeah I know) disk, due to a double move, they got lost.
If so, can I upgrade old HDD and then transfer to my new 1 TB one?
Also anyone got a NUS card. :DDD
