no but he should prolly convert, ull be fucking astonished of how many ppl actually still use fat32 for some reason….

just, if you do convert, be aware of possible complete data loss :DD

seriously do NOT do what was just posted, i don’t know if you’re trolling or you just don’t know what the fuck you’re doing, but seriously, advising people to do a convert in situations like this is fucking retarded

it would be a bit more helpful if you would provide the right way how to do it.

the problem is obviously fat32 related. tf2 requires ntfs for the moment, as it now has a file larger than 4gb. no point in arguing about that.

so, if you have your steam installation on a fat32 drive, you’ll have basically three options:
– do what nuck posted (the microsoft way) or use some other method to convert your fat32 partition to ntfs. As he mentioned, this could lead to data loss, so backup important stuff first. (possible dataloss)
– set up a new partition with ntfs and move your steam installation there. (clean, but takes time and unallocated space)
– setup a symlink to your steamapps folder on a different drive with ntfs. (ugly, as symlinks between fat32 and ntfs are ugly, i wouldnt trust them)

anyway, if you still have fat32 harddrives you are doing something wrong. convert them asap.

converting a live mounted volume is a prime way to get data loss. don’t do it.

the microsoft convert tool unmounts your volume first if possible. if not possible, e.g. your system drive it will do the conversion on the next reboot.

To be honest, for the trouble its likely almost definitely going to cause you’d be just as well reformatting.

“Not enough space” impossible, space is infinite.

well but I have only one partition as I’m using boot camp.

I converted 2 of my drives a few years ago. Nothing bad happened, they worked fine and had no data loss. Now, I’m not saying that it’s impossible for this to happen, but that it’s not as common as some make it seem to be.
