What if Neither Team has a Server?

I’m not entirely sure how this works, but we get assigned to play against other teams, right? Our team cannot afford a server, so we don’t have one. What would happen if the other team had the same situation? Are there ETF2L Server we can use in the event of this happening?

ask to borrow a server?
Well yeah I guess. But I’d have to find someone with one that works. A lot of people I know don’t have servers, or would be using them.
Maybe you could sing songs on mumble in exchange for monetary donations via Paypal?
I have servers. :P
Seriously though, I mean this as a general rule to all teams, but if you’re planning to play more than a ladder game once in a blue moon, you should really have your own server. Pretty much every standard 6v6 team in TF2 has their own server, Its not really fair for ETF2L to bend over backwards to help out people who aren’t really even that interested in playing.

It’s not that we’re not interested in playing, but I seriously can’t afford it right now. I’d totally have one if I could.
Given that you can get a decent server for £10-15, depending on what you choose.
Split between 6 or even 9+ members (if you become a Highlander team), the cost is pretty negligible.

No I totally understand this, but there’s 9 people in your team? A server by my pricing is £14.40/month for a highlander server, and similar-ish for other GSP’s. So you only need each person in your team to donate £1.60/month each, and you have a server. If you seriously cannot afford £1.60/month, then I have no idea what on earth you are doing with a PC capable of running TF2.
Don’t take this offensively, I’m just posting how I feel about the matter. Servers run on serious hardware sitting in datacentres, I know its really intangible but this stuff costs serious money.
Afford has little or nothing to do with it – it’s the general apathy of teams that a few players will cover the rest just for an easy life. Least it was for me ;)
Also clanplanet.co.uk have got a deal going with kritzkast that gives you £2 off the cost of a 24 hour bookable server. It costs £2.50 for an 18 man server so 50p could cover you for a match or two.
Have a look at http://www.kritzkast.com/?page_id=634
etf2l’s got mpuk support. Hell, they could set up a server for each team without problem. I’m not saying it’s the right thing to do, but it should not be a problem, seeing that most matches wont be played at the same time and many teams with buddies can use that buddies’ server – that way setting up ~10 “free” servers for the duration of the tournament is a piece of cake imo.
Get on Quakenet (IRC) and go to #fakkelbrigade, or add me to your friendslist.
We should be able to run 4 highlander matches at the same time, so unless we’re using the servers ourself, we’ll be able to borrow you one.

Just go to #etf2l and describe your problem. Somebody should be able to borrow you a server. If that does not work do !admin and ask for a ETF2L server.

I can definitely afford that much, but I never thought to ask my team to split the cost. of course, now that I think of it, I could never ask them. Most of them are high school students (as am I). I can’t afford say, £15/month because I’m saving up for University, but 1.50 is a much more manageable payment. It’s just, asking them would be just like… I dunno really. And I know Servers cost a lot of money, but I was just asking what to do in the case that neither team has a server, would one be provided, or would I have to ask around. That was really my question.
