1. I know there`s already been a topic about game freezing right after you join a server and pick a team but i can`t find it so plz answer again.

2. MY specs are:
Pentium D 3.00 GhZ
1 GB RAM
Radeon x1600/x1650 (there are 2 if i go check my devices (primary and secondary so maybe i got 2 :P))
So what should I improve??
I was thinking of just buying extra 2 gb of ram but my GPU is kind of old and shitty too.

I got a PLantronics headset (not USB) that i can`t find the name of atm.
They`re new so the problem can`t be in the headset but probably the computer.
Is there anyway i could replace the hole (lmao)?
I`ve been told by people buying a USB driver-less headset would be better so if you got any cheap prepostions let me know.

Let’s start from the beginning.

Do Direct 3D 9 (any modern (eg. post 2006) 3d game) games work?
If yes, do Source engine (Hl2, css, dod:s, gmod, etc.) games work?

I can play all the source games with pretty decent fps

Remove any fps configs and start tf2 with the “-autoconfig” parameter.

that works but i only get like 20 fps and the game chrshes if i try to acces the menu

does sound like a gfx problem tbh. try updating directx and your gfx card drivers.

however, from what you’ve said so far it sounds like a porblem i had with one of my old computers a few years back. basically older games work fine with no problems, but when you play something more demanding, your computer freezes.

the cause of mine was the fan on the gfx card. it was loose and was causing the gfx card to overheat when the game became more demanding. i’d get between 5mins to 30mins of gameplay out of it and then it would lock up.

it may not be the case, but can’t hurt to check right?

ok I ll try that

1: When you experience issues like that, always update your drivers :) For graphic card, audio and chipset. If you haven’t already done that, try it out. And by the looks of it you have an old motherboard. See if there is a BIOS update.
Also try setting all the settings in TF2 to the lowest. And see if you by accident have enable multicore rendering in advanced options.

There is also a known fix for this issue where you should do the following:
“2. Open notepad and make a blank text file

3. Save the file in the directory SteamAppsYourACCnameTeam Fortress 2tf with a file name: textwindow_temp.html (make sure it has a .html extension not a .txt extention).

4. Right-click the file and set the file properties to read-only (tick the box)”

Regarding your system.. Yeah, it would probably give a minor boost by upgrading your RAM, but it will also only have a minor effect when you play games like TF2 and CS:S. I also think it would be hard to find upgrades for your system since it so old, so you might as well save up for a new system. A decent system is not so expensive anymore :)

I updated the drivers and it got me to about 30 fps :D.

I got enough money atm to buy a car :P but i rly don`t want to buy a new comp considering this one still works so if i get it to run tf2 at 60 fps it will be fine.
SO do you think that 3gb ram and thoose specs would get me there?

good enough?

60 FPs.. phew.. that will be hard with the CPU and GPU you have. And no, you don’t have 2 GPUs :D and as i stated earlier, it will be hard for you to find parts. Especially RAM and the CPU. Graphic Card shouldn’t be so hard, since the current graphic card you have is a PCI-Express, right? :) If you have any idea what i mean?

RAM mainly boosts your loading times, and the amount of applications you can have open at the same time. But i could imagine that an old computer like yours, that TF2 lags alot when you open it at first, after you turned on your computer?

So well..

GraphicCard=FPS
CPU=FPS, loading times, can handle more processes at the same time
RAM=loading times, you can have more processes open without risking running out of memory.
HardDrive=Loading times.

good enough?

that just shows you have an Intel chipset btw. :) a good way to check all your computer information is with a program called CPU-Z. It can fetch information from your motherboard, RAM and Graphic Card. AIDA32 is also a good overall tool, that can fetch information of all components in your system, if you don’t know what you have.

well i get the OS paged pool memory low so if im not wrong os memory is ram?
What GFX would you recomend?

pick one :D

Yeah.. it can be. A good idea for you is to use a program called gamebooster before you enter a game. It will close all uneccessary applications/services prior to entering the game. And when you quit the game, you can restore it to its previous state, thereby saving a lot of ressource for your game :)

A good idea for you, would be to increase your pagefile. By default its managed by windows, and its located on your partition windows is installed on (default C:). If you running out of diskspace, it will not have enough room to “page” on while you play, and it does that alot during gameplay :)

so..

1: Check your diskspace. Do you have over 2-3GB available on your windows partition drive?
2: Manually increase your pagefile size to around 3GB. That can be done in different way compared to what system you use.

and are you sure you have a PCI-Express graphicCard? :) There could be a chance your graphiccard is an AGP. You can find that information if you download CPU-Z, or looking at your motherboard specs.
