How many digits is the steam id supposed to be?

My steam id is 7 digits, my friend has 6 and i saw people with 8. Is it all different, or did someone make a mistake?

You mean the older the account, the less digits?
But how come when you type it in your profile, and my friends steam id was 8 digits, it said it was the wrong format, and it had to be 6 digits.
You will find it needs to be something like 0:0:1234567 or 0:1:1234567
That is the format you need to use
But my friend had an eight digit steam id, and when he was writing it down it said it had to be 6 digits. So he deleted the last two. Is that alright?
No deleting digits won’t work.
Go into TF2 -> join a server (local is ok) -> open console -> type status
That will give you your exact steam id enter that in your profile.
If you keep on having problems, join the #etf2l channel on quakenet and type !admin – someone will be able to help you out there.
