I’m confused.. is this supposed to keep evolving itself and eventually come up with the perfect vehicle? Because it’s just repeating itself..

Alright, so I left it be for 6 hours while I was gone.. And now I’ve got a unicorn buggy.

Love it when they spawn with no wheels.

12 times in a row is my record. I’m not really sure what the wheel frequency does. Cranked it to 100 and they still spawed without wheels sometimes.
Generation 23 but it keeps getting stuck at 681,2 points…

I’ve got one running with all the default settings – I haven’t touched anything:
Generation: 69 Max Score: 827.3
And one where I set Max Wheels to 8:
Generation: 15 Max Score: 747.5
Interestingly, the ‘cars’ doing well in both windows are very similar in shape.
The algorithm has a few criteria it bases itself upon to decide how to transform the cars, it’s much like natural selection. The characteristics of a car that make it past a certain goal (in distance) or does well will have parts of his characteristics transferred to other cars, and cars that do bad won’t have their characteristics transferred as much. (you can tell by the different colours the cars take on after a few generations, in the first generations you have cars with only one solid colour, and after that the colours on different cars differentiate more and more, this is the cars giving their “genes” if you may to the other cars)
So the cars who are adapted the best for the job at hand will have their characteristics transferred to other cars, kinda like natural selection.
Well that’s my theory from what i’ve seen anyways

Left it on for the night, it got to around 889 after generation 20. Woke up to generation 180+ and it was still the same design winning. Very simplistic as well, 2 large wheels with a triangle shape body.
the best car I had was a 3 wheeler with two wheels in one plane and a third one on top and in the middle of the bottom two. It looked kinda like an RC-Car I once owned. Triangle of wheels – nearly unstoppable.
Also, I had a couple very successful models with different wheel-configurations but one common “feature” – some kind of a break which slows the vehicle down and prevents it from flippin, but this will always fail on steep hills ^^
Also, some developments are just deadends, but if you wait long enough there will be a breakthrough.
but yeah, I am addicted.
