The new Tron film was released yesterday on the 17th of December.
What did you think of the film if you have seen it ?
I thought the film was really good. It looked amazing in 3D and didn’t use it as a gimmick which is what you see in most new released in 3D these days. The real world of the film was 2D but the grid was 3D very cool idea :)
Oh and the soundtrack was fucking amazing.

not seen it, already know it won’t be as good as the original because people are more interested nowadays in releasing a movie with OMG 3D AND 10000 SPECIAL EFFECTS instead of having a decent storyline/character development

you hardly have to be a film snob to appreciate that any semblance of “good scriptwriting” has gone down the pan over the last 10 years

Missing the mark by about a mile there.
What you describe is in fact the exact premise for the first Tron movie. Absolutely terrible scriptwriting, terrible dialogue, terrible character direction, not to mention the amount of logical errors and short cuts in the storyline. If you don’t believe me, see it again (in HD).
The movie was written and directed by the same guy, a nerd who simply didn’t have the experience or focus on those aspects. It’s purely a play with imagination and experimenting with cutting edge graphics. It was a visual experience unlike anything before, a full length feature art movie.
The second one won’t capture any of that. It’s standardized visuals for a standardized market. But, I can promise you one thing, scriptwriting and character development has turned a lot more professional since the first Tron movie.
And make sure to grab the new soundtrack (and NOT using it in a frag vid), I must have heard through it literally 100 times already.

*facepalm*
Dude, you’ve not even seen the movie yet, so why bitching about it already?
I’ve seen it, and I have to say, even though it’s not as good as the original (and we all know the original mostly is the best because it was the first time ever the idea was being used, and with the original Tron both the production and the storyline were very consistent), indeed, a major part has been focussed on the visual aspect and that might drag down the storyline a bit, but it remains a good movie.
So for those who think this movie is all about “OMG 3D AND 10000 SPECIAL EFFECTS instead of having a decent storyline/character development”, think again. This movie was the movie I was looking forward to see since last year, and it’s been worth the waiting.

Why is 3D and 1000 special effects a bad thing? From the reviews I’ve heard/read the movie is absolutely empty of any content or meaning, just a podium for an awesome audiovisual experience. And in itself that’s fine, right? Just don’t see it in anything less than IMAX 3D.
I heard the plot is bullshit, but the effects are pretty good.
I would rather pay for a Blu-ray Die Hard collection tbh, or just wait a week so people calm down and not invade the cinemas.

True that, I’ll see this anyway though, shiny effects are nice to see
(Oh, and I thought the original tron was godawful but hey :P)
There are a few decent films around from recent times, but I stress the few.

It obviously needed to be paired with an awkward footage of you dancing!
