Ok so my laptop is a piece of shit as is general knowledge on the etf2l by now.
So I decided to buy a new one. My budget is tops 800, and I can’t get a desktop no it’s just not practical. This is what I’m looking at:
http://www.elara.ie/products/detailsfullat.asp?productcode=ECE2004930#spec
AMD Phenom II [email protected] quad core
ATi Mobility Radeon 5650HD
I live in Ireland so that site is preferrabe because it ship to Ireland, I’m just wondering what fps would I get in tf2 with that processor and that graphics card.
Also, recommend me some good pc’s for 800.

I underclocked my Phenom II 955 desktop with a 512mb radeon 4770 GPU, results are here

The 1.6GHz quad core may be a problem….
at a guess I’d expect that laptop to hit 60 FPS with details set to reasonable high, but i’d ask them what the clock rates of the gpu are, as some laptop gpus, are massively under clocked to stay within thermal limits, and AMD allows alot of leeway

that websites interesting, you got something from them before monkeh?
A mate of mine got his desktop from them….all very nice but a little slow in the build/delivery.

ahem.. I want to run tf2 better than my laptop already does, that’s the reason I’m buying a new one. Also $800 pounds is bullshit that’s nearly 1000 euros :(btw I am looking for 800 euros! not pounds or anything else.

if u want tf2 – dont buy quad cores, tf2 uses only two cores and needs them to be fucking high
if u get i5(any, all of em are duals) then u gonna have stable 100fps, as long as u have gpu to back it up with fps cfg (5650 is more than enough, 5470 is ok-ish on lower resolutions)
1.6ghz quad phenom wont have even 60fps on mids (since ull be using w7 and xp wont even work with this)
tickus, underclocking wont show much as the L2/L3 cache will be much larger on pc cpu than mobile ones and these caches is what matters in source engine

So what would you recommend then
edit: what about this? http://www.elara.ie/products/detailsfullat.asp?productcode=ECE2082210#spec 2.2 dual core and ati mobility radeon HD 4250
2nd edit: http://www.elara.ie/products/detailsfullat.asp?productcode=ECE2058284#spec this one looks good triple core 2.1ghz so if it uses 2 cores at 2.1 ghz and te vid card is ati radeon 5470

Like i said 1.6ghz may be the problem
l2 is the same, mobile phenom lacks level 3 cache, it is the equivalent of an desktop Athlon II X 4
nothing as-slow as 1.6ghz here but you can see the difference between Athlon II and Phenom II cpus here on L4D

if u want decent fps – phenom II x2(two cores – 2.8ghz and up) or core i5 (any, all of em also have two cores) or i7 with two core setup (expensive)
the one u showed is worse than previous and since its sony, the cooling will be shite aswell, those aint gaming laptops… not to mention gpu isnt even for gaming
and yes, athlons should be avoided, same with core 2 duo’s, they are outdated

triple core @ 2.1 ghz with radeon 5650- would be better (can they customise), you’ll always have to compromise when buying a laptop somewhere
core i5 with radeon 5650 would be better

AMD Phenom II dual core 2.8ghz
ATi Radeon HD 4250
Seems alright just a matter of whether it is available in Ireland

as u said, no L3 cache, so only ones that would stand close to i5 would be high clock ones – AMD Phenom II X2 N620 2.8ghz
u wont get decent fps on 4250 – http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Radeon-HD-4250.29664.0.html
1500 3dmarks vs 4000 marks with 4570/5470 (barely runs tf2 at 60fps mids on 1024×768)
