http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMPMA5aSkmM&feature=relatedfor a decent mastering you should use Ableton ofc ;)
HF!
stop bitching around and use Renoise like the pros do:
http://www.renoise.com/artists/
BUT if you are good and conversant with a other tool like Reason or FruityLoops etc. and the sound is nice then stay with it!
most tools are complex and its better u can use one right instead of switching between all that progz.
and btw sry for my bad english (chris) :P
I think what Mr Jones is trying to say is that using programs as the ones mentioned in this thread require somewhere around 10% of the skill needed to play a real instrument. Which is true. (yes, I tried both)
I guess what you listen to is all personal preference. Personally I enjoy listening to a piece of music where the amount of skill and effort put in just stands out. So that’s basically anything but pop/rnb/rap/dubstep/rnb.
Furthermore, this thread needs more amon amarth.

The World needs less Amon Amarth, somewhere close to zero imo. Can’t believe I used to like them.
I used to be a real metalhead, but now I look back and listen and they just seem brash and skilless.

After that last response of his, I’m just going to assume d1ck jones is either A. a troll, or B. a retard. No use in arguing with either kind tbh.
And Spike, I know you are definitely not a retard, but in this discussion, you are. What are you doing in here anyway if you don’t like the subject matter? Because you are more intelligible than d1ck, I will try and make an argument anyway:
To take your own example. A thought experiment: You could theoretically write a computer algorythm that exactly generates the waveform needed to reproduce an Amon Amarth song.
Does that make it a shitty unlikeable song now? (for me the answer is yes, but that is more due to the band and personal taste). For you, the answer is yes, because your perception of the music is unchanged. And the concept of the music is still human. Someone thought out the composition, arrangement, riffs, harmonies, etc. That’s what matters. The same with electronic music production.
If someone can play “Mary has a little lamb” on his guitar, at 50.000bpm breakneck speed, is that unbelievably skillful? Yes. Does that make it good music? I hope you agree with me: NO.

Nobody is perfect :)
@skeej; I didn’t say my taste in music is superior to that of others (it is though, but thats not the point :D). I only said using FruityLoops or w/e is easier than playing guitar, basically.
And yes, music discussions bring out the troll in me. I’m deeply sorry.

Curious to hear this btw. I might actually like it xD

I can keep on arguing. I could also step away from the “relativeness” argument and just provide arguments for electronic music producers:
A genuine electronic music producer actually has to do MORE work than an instrumentalist. He has to provide the entire band (drums, bass, lead, background, etc), and he can (and must) shape his sonical palette all from scratch. You start off with a sine wave, a pure tone without overtones. From that you have to build, until your sound is rich and interesting. It is like the electronic music producer is actually the instrument maker. He is Mr. Stradivarius, Mr. Fender. He is in control of the complete process. To say it in a lame way: a guitarist just buys a guitar, an amp, and a footpedal with some wah wah or distortion, and is good to go.
The fact that an electronic musician cannot play his tunes “truly” live, is actually a proof of how complex the music is. There is just too much going on for a human being to process in realtime.
Also I would have appreciated your argument more if you actually listened to complex and original non-electronic music (eg free jazz, modernist classical), but it’s just generic metal :/ … Yay, 32/32 drumming and power chords stacked onto one another. It’s actually one of the more simpler concepts in music (but don’t worry, most music is quite simple).
And yes, music discussions bring out the truth-bombs in me. Arguing for the sake of arguing. I win the special olympics. I’m deeply sorry.

Where did you get this from? Because you be wrong.

The rest is a mix of 80s pop/jazz/classical.
