to make a really good movie you need to have Sony Vegas, I prefer 7.
You can learn how to use it, in this tut’s:
Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPJq4MXgDpI&feature=PlayList&p=91CBEF8EC717A2FF&index=4

When you play in mpuk or pcw just record it, if you have any frags in this demo you cut it with fraps.

You just go to the point where the frag was and press F9, when the frag is over you press F9 again to stop it.

BTW you need fraps for this :P

Don’t use Fraps, ever. It’s probably the worst capturing software ever created.

Instead, use the ‘startmovie’ command:

1) Switch to windows mode.

2) Play a demo.

3) When you want to start recording, type ‘startmovie FileName avi’ in your console. A window will appear, asking for which codec to use. I suggest x264 for high quality and Xvid for quick capturing.

4) When done, hit the console again, and type in ‘endmovie’.

The avi file, decoded with the codec if your choice, will appear in the account/teamfortress2/tf directory.

Notes:

* It’s possible to use the ‘host_framerate X’ command to create motion blur effects. The higher X is, the blurrier the movie will get. Experience with it and see what happens, it’s a neat command.

* While recording movies, I suggest using minimal HUD, fast weapon switch and ‘hud_saytext_time 0’, which will hide all text written.

Good luck!

Hey Player Thirty-Two, how did you get x264 working in TF2? It does not show up in my command box. And XVid always crashes TF2 :(

Jh

Hey dats!

you cant do x264 straight from tf2. just save the raw avi with huffyuv or the uncompressed setting.

shifty

Sir

If you guys can make 1 single thread and add all these things together, ill sticky it :)

Actually, you can :x I use it that way. The x264 codec appears on the list just like the others. I didn’t do anything special though :p

randa

i have a load of demos that i took before the heavy update and nw i want them fr my movie is there anyway of recovering them?

Exoronic

Well i do it this way

Record a demo obviously :p

Then type ‘demoui’ in console and go to the part you want to get cap.

Then just a few secs before the part u want , pause the movie and go to your console and type :

Startmovie nameofthefiles extensionofthefiles framesperseconds.

example : startmovie airshot TGA 30
( that will make LOADS of TGA files in ur HL folder that actually is the movie once put together )

and when once you got the part you want captured , type in console ‘endmovie’

If you check your TF2-folser then , its full of TGA files.

Then you need a program to put all those TGA-files together.
The easiest program is “videomach” or “virtualdub”

i usually use videomach cause its made for dummy’s :p
anyway use any program you want :p

In videomach : just add all the TGA-files in videomach , you can delete delete as much frames u want to get to the part you want.

then you just can save the whole thing u added in videomach in any extension you want. use the codec u want you use ( i would install ffdshow
and use x264-codec) and save.

there is ur avi. ofcourse this is just basic avi making. You can use Sony vegas or abobe after effects for cool effects.

op

I found this site pretty useful.
