TDH doesn’t take skill, any soldier with an ounce of aim will excel with it.

Bullshit. You may try it urself and post results here later.

Btw, the amount of damage done with TDH during a match is roughly even compared to damage done with regular rocket launcher. For example, http://pmod.etboosts.com/_test/testrepo.php?idx=11

games like cs, css, starcraft, wc3, quake…no new shit nuff said!!!!!!!!

CS was constantly developped from the very early beta versions to the current version. New weapons were added, lots of tweaks including the addition of recoil (Damn I loved pre-beta 3 awping!). De_ style maps were added later and were not a standard, now they are the competitive standard.

CS:S is a clone of CS, see above.

Starcraft has changed drastically over the last 11 years, the original retail version of starcraft is completely imbalanced, the best and only viable strategy for zerg was to 4 pool and rush a terran player and that only changed when people decided to ‘play fairly’. Broodwar had key additions such as Medics, Corsairs, Dark Templars and Lurkers. Imagine Starcraft without them units. It would be a dead game.

Quake is probably the only game that hasn’t really had any major additions to the game bar a few fixes. Saying that it thrived competitively for many years during the ‘pro gaming golden years’ and then died out. Quake live has been an excuse for people to get back in and play it competitively.

All of those games have a huge following of players that dates back to the very early days of each games. The problem with Team Fortress 2 is that the old versions of the fortress style games had died out before TF2 was released so we couldn’t absorb much of those communities, the game isn’t fast enough to be considered a fast paced FPS, so we barely take any of the quake/ut/hldm scene and the game feels alien to the CS/CoD/CS:S in the sense that it’s not crouching behind a box, throwing flash bangs and managing recoil on your weapons.

Our game has pretty much started with a few stragglers from random competitive games or dieing games, a few pros who wanted a new challenge and the rest is public players or new gamers who just happened to form a team and like the game.

Unlocks aren’t going to determine getting new players in (not big competitive teams anyway), what they will do is keep existing players, especially the public scene ones, more interested in the game. They then might want to play pickups, matches etc.. and become a competitive player.

The fully developed Team Fortress 2 should not only have 9 classes to choose from, but also a series of viable unlocks which in effect generate a tonne of new viable classes and strategies (9 classes, 3 unlocks per class, 72 possible combinations of unlocks (or something similar to that) so in effect, 72 seperate classes. If you think that mastering a simple 1 dimensional game is how the game becomes competitive then that’s your opinion, but I think it’s a lot more competitive to be able to master a game with an almost indefinate amount of possibilities and strategies.

Interesting stuff. Does anyone else have stats from their games?

With regular rl you predict based on enemy movement and also put on correct length for placement to foot, with the DH most soldiers only do the first, they don’t try to bounce the enemy, which is the skill which separates the good from rest. Anyone can make a prediction based on an enemy’s current movement – that’s why the DH is a joke, it lessens the skill needed to play soldier.

bodyshoting soldiers are about as skillful as w+m1 pyros, huntsman snipers or rmb demomen

The splash from a TDH shot directly under a player can be negated by a jump.
Does it not make sense to aim only in a X and Y manner where you will either hit or miss, as opposed to taking Z in to account where you could get the X and Y right but hit the ground or have your rocket jumped over?

I did? Where?

And lol, your video log shows why it should be banned until it’s balanced. Check out the kill on MG//David at 0.13, can you honestly say you deserved that medic pick? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3hRFMp706A

And please don’t quote DPS figures as valid arguments, they mean nothing.

The dh is ridiculous with 1 hit kill on medics, makes it too easy to completely turn the game around with fluke spam.

It seems to me you’re basing you’re whole ‘tdh is op’ argument on this, but fuck me that was a funny moment :D

In all honesty he shouldn’t have got that medic pick but we all know by now not to jump. The minicrits will be fixed soon anyway, and as soon as your med went down you should have fell back anyway instead of pushing in. That way half your team wouldnt be dead!

Medic is arguably the most valuable class, so yea if TDH can do this to medics all day long it has no place in comp. play.

IIRC he didn’t jump he was getting off the train as we were about to push, then bam a nuke flys past and our medic is dead in one shot.

You say minicrits will be fixed soon, you have no idea if they will, nor do I or the admins. Look how long it took Valve to degay the FaN.

Scouts have to keep distance from a TDH solly to not get one shotted Other classes cant jump over they get easily shot midair and die instantly.

Scouts have to move properly to not get one shotted. I’ve already seen a tonne of scouts who were completely ignoring presence of TDH solly while trying to kill the medic. They were simply running on a straight line to the medic, assuming that they gonna kill medic faster than solly will kill them. This “strategy” just doesn’t work in case of TDH, sry.
As for the other classes, they can still jump over TDH solly unless they are jumping right to his face, assuming that solly is not skilled enough to airshot them in the easiest case possible.

So, ye, playing both with TDH and vs TDH requires more skill. Now, is this bad for a competitive game?

I think it will be, but I hope they take off minicrits on airshots altogether. That’s the easy fix. Also hope they make it so it can’t one shot classes, at least give the lower health classes a mere chance of getting away, maybe by leaving us with 5 or 10hp.
