After playing with the TDH a while it seems the mini-crits aren’t necessary. Sure they are fun but I don’t really see what they add to the game, might aswell enable damage spread in 6v6. Honestly I’d prefer if it had the same damage as the original rocket launcher. Right now the shotgun is a little pointless to take when using the DH as it more or less one hit scouts and 2 hits everything higher. Without the extra damage and mini-crits I recogn that they could increase the radius to 50% to balance it and to allow it to juggle more reliably, one of my favourite things about soldier.
Removing mini-crits and a slight damage reduction with some little increased splash would make it nicer yea. I don’t think you need to lower the damage to the same level as the normal rj, then the only advantage would be the increased speed. Maybe give it the same max damage at close range, but less damage fall-off.
Haven’t played enough with the buff banner of the equalizer to comment on those.
Wait — that all makes some kind of sense — but you need to keep the ‘OMG! BAN THE OP-WEAPON!’-kiddies going. No matter was conclusion people come to, TF2 really NEEDS moar nwave’m00n:s and other people like it. Please edit your post asap.

What my main point is Gryzor, like more or less everyone agrees with, except you, is that getting the minicrit when your standing close to a ledge or basically just jumping, needs to be fixed.
TDH’s 80% speed makes a hell of a lot easier to airgibb, so its really no use to have the mini crit, you will still make your opponent QQ over that he actually tried to jump at you.
Then its the thing with the one-shot-kill rockets, as Extremer showed with his screenshots, he did about 166 damage on a point blank rocket, and personally, I think that is abit overpowered. Get your roamer soldier to flank the enemy medic and poff, but that’s just my personal opinion, if you guys are fine with it, then so be it.
p.s. Like GangsterAlgot said, scouts will be thinking twice before running head on a soldier with the “TDH”.

In my opinion they could just remove minicrits, lessen damage but make splash bigger. I’m mainly excited with the rocket speed which is just lovely:)
It’s one question: One rocket enough for one scout i.e. dealing 125+ damage or not.
Most know the answers, soldiers don’t want to hear it.
scout vs soldier 1on1
with the normal rocket launcher you are dead if there is only a little hill or something
scout needs 2 perfect shots and can move around where ever he wants.. you can keep it at mid range and wont be hit at all… (not talking bout fan here)
TDH soldier cant protect a medic at all if a scout attacks except getting a direct which is not as easy as some people make it look like.
1on1 scout soldier is finally fair, even if the soldier doesnt have heigth advantage
TDH limit isnt needed because you need one soldier with the normal rl

@ the 160 dmg aka medic 1 hit topic:
if you shoot the medics head he will survive with 10 hp BUT if you shoot his stomach or legs some splash will reflect from the ground and kill him instantly.
this should probably be fixed no dm splash at all on direct hits. makes it completely useless for crits but ok.

In my opinion they could just remove minicrits, lessen damage but make splash bigger. I’m mainly excited with the rocket speed which is just lovely:)
so just change the regular rl to have fast rockets? ok…

Thing is you can have “perfect” prediction for the shot, but if the enemy moves after you’ve fired then the splash isnt sufficient to get any sort of clip on him which would often line him up for another shot like with the old RL

With a little less rocket damage fall off it would make it the weapon of choise for mid range fights versus single targets. If you like to get in close or deal splash you take the normal one.
+10% damage done
+80% projectile speed
-50% explosion radius
Then I’d be happy. (109-121 damage on pubs with damage spread on.)

True but I don’t see the speed as the biggest problem at the moment. I can understand why scouts aren’t used to dealing with soldiers using this. I’ve always been annoyed by how the original rocket launcher imposes some limits no matter how good the player is. Technically the DH is a straight upgrade if used perfectly, but no worse than some snipers. JH I’m looking at you :p
give minicrit airshots to the old rl and get rid of em on DH, but only when they have been blasted into the air by explosives (not just jumping).
reduce fall-off dmg slightly on DH, reduce speed increase by 10%, increase splash radius slightly.
i think win is in order

I’m talking about increasing splash to something like -50% compared to normal and in exchange give up on minicrits and make max.dmg a bit smaller. I pretty much thought of something like Plasters. Reducing speed 10-20% wouldn’t be such a bad idea either.
At it’s current state I don’t really see it overpowered since you actually have to aim instead of relying on splash damage and you really can’t do much juggling with it.
Even in it’s overpowered and buggy state at the moment, fragga said it best, in some situations the original rocket launcher surprisingly is better.
please keep the rocket speed as it is and remove mini crits…
maybe remove splash on a direct so only 1 target is affected and doesnt get splash from the wall or ground next to him.
and the 50 % dmg thing must be fixed of course
