[Suggestion] Rethinking Golden Cap

A Golden Cap round has to be played when 30 minutes have passed and the scores are equal. It is an exciting ending to a close map that puts immense pressure on both teams to play as well as they can.
Or at least it should be like that. Right now, if a map enters golden cap, two points have already been awarded, which means in the golden cap round you are only battling over one single point. This means that there isn’t much at stake as one point is often negligible (although that mindset isn’t good to have in an actual game). I feel it would be a lot better to have the full three points awarded to the team that wins the Golden Cap, as this will increase the quality of the game since teams are under more pressure, and consequently the casts will also be more fun to watch.

I dont think people go into golden caps thinking “meh it’s only 1 point who cares”
I dont really like the idea tbh it’s a little reminiscent of the Golden Goal in the WC which was a terrible way to decide games.
The match is drawn at the end of the game, the golden cap just gives the teams a chance to divy up the remaining point. I don’t see a need to change it personally.
I think it should be 3 points to the GC winner or there should be no golden cap (1 point each)

Except maps are distributed with 3 points per map, so that wouldn’t work.

There are cases where one team only needs one point more to achieve a certain goal (like guarenteed promotion). When this is awarded right before the golden cap, the incentive to win the actual Golden Cap is lost. This makes the Golden Cap feel more like an addendum than the conclusion of the map.

what do you mean?
why wouldn’t it work? it seems to work fine in football

I have always thought this rule to be odd – if you draw, you draw. I think there being 1 point awarded to each team would be best, and golden cap rules only being used in the event of their needing to be a definitive winner (such as cups).

Each map award a total of 3 points to the competing teams. What you propose is giving either one team all the points or both teams one (a total of 2). That leaves one point unawarded.
Or am I getting something wrong?

Afaik this wouldn’t be a problem.

Captain obvious mate we figured that out already.
What stark said is why dont we use football scoring system which works well and no one ever complained about one point not assigned in case of draw.

I don’t understand why this is a problem

The 3 point per win, 1 per draw rule was applied to football to reward aggressive play. It actually made football to see less draws, since a draw was more of a loss for both teams, rather than a 0.5-0.5.
If the proposed rule is going to be applied, both teams would be playing aggro if the score is a tie. But imo that isn’t going to do much in tf2, and punishing teams that played evenly would be a bad innovation, it literally means that the games that ended in a draw were of a lesser value.
And now back to the Ondkaja’s suggestion.
Imo it isn’t a good one, the losing team would be punished really hardly because of a single round, it would really suck to be in the team that lost the golden cap.
Contrariwise i would like to see koth games ending in a single point difference (3-2) to spread the points in a style of the current 5cp golden cap, the team winning the 40% of the rounds should be rewarded with a point imo.
Get Wireplay’s scoring system. 2 points to winner, remaining 1pt is distributed according to score, playing 3:2 would mean the winner gets 2.6pts, and the loser .4pt.

If you’re going to do this you cant have golden cap, you need extra time. Having potentially 2.2 points out of 3 decided on a single round at the end of which you cant reply after playing an even game for 30 mins would suck.
The football system is the best imo, rewards aggressive play and only cup/playoff games need a definitive winner so there isn’t really a problem with map draws in league play.
