Things that might help:
– inform your provider, that you expect DNS reflection attacks. He may increase the upload of the server, to be able to discard all the useless traffic arriving
– tell all participating players to
– set their steam profile to private
– go offline on steam
– and set hide_server 1
A quick question:
Will hide_server 1 actually prevent this?
Or will it just make it less likely to happen?

hide_server 1 in combination with all players going offline on Steam and setting their steam profiles to private can prevent the attacker from knowing the server IP and therefore makes it less likely, the server is getting attacked. It will not defend you against an incoming attack.

Well, if I understood correctly, the ddos isn’t game specific. The cvar helps obfuscating the ip address of the server. As soon as the attacker knows on which machine the srcds is running, ddosing is possible again.
I was watching on stv last night and the first thing that comes up when you join the relay is “crack tv”. So since these guys watch all the prem players on twitch they must know all the server ip’s by now anyway.
I’m guessing you need need some secret match server that nobody ever uses in pcw’s and doesn’t have a name that shows up on the relay either.
The third server we played on was a fairly random one, though. And we were all offline on steam with profiles set to private at that point. Only took the ddos’er 5 minutes to kill that server.

it takes 1min to open server browser and find ur names on passworded server list
hide_server 1 works better than going offline (unless ddosser is someone on friends list)

Does this simple protection extend to poaching players and then still losing to pyrogen?

IIRC thide_server also blocks “view game info” in friends list.
thats not true, if the guy is on friends list it shows ip, just doesnt show players on server
