Why do we have to argue against every single unlock instead of having people argue in favor of ones they want?
Quoted from kaidus
No one is going to go to a forum to tell you why you should keep the rules the same as they currently are. Only people who want change will, so that forum is going to be horribly stacked and grossly misrepresent the proportion of opinion. Please just use your brains and make these relatively simple decisions for yourselves, or alternatively bring in more people like Greg if your own brains fall short of the measure.
Can I interpret that comment as “please keep obscure in the map pool”? The forum is not only used for feedback on unlocks but also on the map pool and promising candidates for the next season’s maps and also on rules feedback. I could imagine that some plans for future competitions will be revealed on the new forum as well (e.g. the rough schedule for 6v6 Seasons 13-15 and HL Seasons 3 and 4).
I think one of the major holdbacks for ETF2L is the lack of feedback from both top players as well as casual players. How are we (the admins) supposed to know what you want if you do not tell us or if your useful feedback is buried under a pile of troll comments? Usually, the shitstorm bursts out when everything is decided and it is too late to change anything. Why not give us some feedback at an earlier stage where we can still make changes without delaying anything? Does that sound like such a bad idea?
If you want to be heard, use the forum. If you do not care how you will play TF2 at the ETF2L in the next seasons, you will have to rely on those who do. Simple.

But the whole new forum was only implemented for the unlocks. We have a map subforum here that works perfectly well, and I imagine 1 thread on rules would suffice too. The only reason you need a whole new forum is to police the utter twaddle that comes out during unlocks debates.
And the whole premise of the forum that all unlocks are allowed unless proven to be shit is ridiculous.

It was not implemented for unlocks only. It was implemented for general feedback on the league. The map threads in this forum are rather used for feedback on the map itself, whereas that often says little to nothing on the league compability.

To be honest, I hope there will be no need to pollice any “utter twaddle”.

Please tell me where you got this from. The opening posts of all unlock threads are held completely neutral and only contain stats and facts of the item. It nowhere says that all unlocks will be allowed unless you argue against them.
Honestly, it doesn’t matter why a seperate forum was created(the reasons seem fairly weak anyway), it’s just plain and simply a bad idea. Highly doubt more than a handful of people will be bothered to actually register on a forum seperate from ETF2L’s to discuss… ETF2L.

By season 13, class restrictions will be altered so that the only off-class allowed is one sniper. The only class that is allowed to off-class is scout. This is to make the game less random, and so people don’t off-class because they suck at their primary class.
This will be eliminated in season 14 when the class restrictions will allow no off-classing at all. The sniper could apparently bodyshot, which requires no skill. Because Valve hasn’t fixed this, ETF2L decided to simply ban the sniper.
By season 15, original will be banned along with the primary medic unlocks, to increase skill, as unlocks make the game easier. This also eliminates the need of discussion, as you simply ban every weapon without considering its balance in the game. Who needs discussion anyway?
By season 16, the map pool will be edited to only include cp_badlands. A football pitch always stays the same, and the same principle should apply to TF2, right?
I admit it, I grinned like an idiot while reading this.

But you could very easily just look at the maps and see whether they’re viable and liked etc, no need for a whole new forum that won’t get anywhere near the same audience as etf2l.

How about your first post in a general unlocks thread, where you say “If you do not want unlocks you should bring up some good arguments against them”
That doesn’t sound neutral to me…
Since this thread isn’t really about the idea box, please feel free to throw your glowing praise/constructive criticism/hateful scorn of the thing in http://etf2l.org/forum/feedback/topic-22208/?recent=399212

Looking at past seasons’ map pools and the feedback ETF2L received during and after the seasons (bazillion, freight, obscure, almost foundry) I would say that has not worked exceptionally well.
We would also have to filter out all comments that are aimed to make the map better and not to support the map for the next season.

My earlier comment that next season will feature all unlocks may have been made to lure people into the new forum to increase the userbase.

This is such a pitifully awful attitude. If you want feedback from top players (You do. And if you don’t, then you should) you approach them yourself because it is a necessity. Taking the attitude of “oh well you had the chance to sign-up to an obscure link buried in a long-winded news post that took you to an amateur looking forum [This isn’t meant as an insult, but come on it’s the default phpbb skin that every new css clan and their grandmothers use], what more do you want?” will only reflect poorly on you, and claiming that those with the ability to provide adequate insights “had their chance” will not make for much of a shield.
All other points aside for a moment, how do I even find this forum once the news post has gone? I honestly have no idea, and once the news post has gone I’m not about to go gallivanting around the internet in search of a place to enter into a hopeless discussion with a collective majority of individuals who quite frankly will have very little of worth to add to any discussion. The biggest problem with any feedback/discussion threads wasn’t the flaming or trolling (fuck, the laughs they provided was what made the whole experience tolerable), but in fact the myriad of utter bullshit but at the same time genuinely serious propositions being put forward.
I just noticed it pops up (sometimes) in the very buggy drop-down menus. Refer to the phpbb default skin comment. Anyone who sees this and heads on over is going to make an immediate 180 unless they are heading their with the soul purpose of spewing nonsense to other nonsense spewers.

I think you should allow all unlocks next season. The TF2 will boom because of all the pubbers that were put off by our ruleset! Would be great to see a 1000 teams play in etf2l! Imagine all the new strategies! Lets do it.
I’m not being sarcastic.

Because almost whole argumentation against unlocks is sarcasm and ill-breeding.

no, u elitist pig, stop beeing biased, unlocks are amazing
only allow quick fix, ban other medic weapons.
and why the fuck make separate forum that is all about ppl wanting unlocks?!
And it’s only in current thread, which is not about feedback forum or unlocks at all.

Yeah, it changed to that over time because we had the same arguments 2 years ago. But every once in a while somebody likes to bring it up again, and people just can’t be bothered with smashing their arguments over and over again.
I imagine that in the future, ETF2L will be worth around 3.5 billion dollars. Crasp will realise this eventually and have a heart attack, putting him into hospital for a good period of time and leaving it to public vote as to who should take over the site. Here’s how it’ll go down:
dunc, seeing how much it’s worth, will apply (out of greed). He will recieve a grand total of 0 votes (he tried to vote for himself but missed, voting for this next applicant)
eXtine and the folks at eXtv will try to take it over to truly enhance the competitive scene further (even though it’s already worth 3.5 billion). They make 10 extravision episodes in the space of a week to increase their chances of winning. Every 5th second, eXtine shouts “YAAAAOOOOO” and every 10th second, shdwpuppet says, in a rather innocent and pathetic voice: “ooh yay etf2l yaaayy”. They will scrape second.
Evil will apply, seeing this as his final chance to truly kill TF2 by selling the site to EA. He will come second to last, only recieving few (ironic) votes.
Many randoms will sign up just for the sake of trying to be head admin of a site worth 3.5 billion. They get few circlejerk votes, but they’re obviously not going to win.
The winner will be none other than our very own Fisshu. He signs up in a stoned state, not knowing what the fuck he was signing up for and eventually wins. He makes massive changes to ETF2L, dropping it’s value to less than what it is worth today. The TF2 scene ends not with a bang, but with a fizzle.
