Naturally there is a huge problem with the first placed people not being able to win anything depsite coming first in the league…
Rugby League in this country does the same, the top 4 in the league go to playoffs. People dont forget who won the league, but the ‘Grand Final’ is always an event.
Topping the Premiership should still mean something imo, playing for 4th is all well and good, but to be first after the regular season and lose in the playoffs should get it’s own pixel trophy.
League position trophy + Grand Final winners pixel trophy. Any prizes/money/peripherals given to the team that finishes top of the league. Playoff’s for bragging rights, entertainment and the growth of tf2?

So basically for next season: apply ‘Arx’s’ format and extend the playoffs with a week or 2.
A clear calendar and promotion/relegation system BEFORE the start of the season would be a welcome change as well :)
And perhaps, to keep the lower divisions entertained during the prem playoffs, fun cups between the division winners?
Whoever comes 4th should play whoever comes 3rd – The winner of that then plays whoever finished 2nd – The winner of that then plays the league champion who came first.
If 4th (in this case blight) came to fight Epsilon in the Final it’d be more deserved and also isn’t as unfair on the team who came first for playing well all season.
Once again, i want to clarify that it was not a personal attack towards Blight nor their default. It’s just that there could be a better option to organise those playoffs.
And +1 for Arx, this system seems better in my opinion.
@ WAR: The current system consists of 4 games
Just a typical example:
1) 1st plays 4th
2) 2nd plays 3rd
3) Winner plays Winner (1st and 2nd place decided)
4) Loses plays Loser (3rd and 4th place decided)
The system mentioned above consists of just 3 games
1) 4th plays 3rd (4th place decided)
2) winner plays 2nd (3rd place decided)
3) winner plays 1st (2nd and 1st place decided)
So you actually have 1 less game to play in total.
The old (current) system has the advantage that those 4 games can be played in 2 time slots, because all 4 teams can be playing at the same time. But this is a bad idea as it means spectators are split between games.
The playoffs don’t really need to be rushed, but they can be. You could have a “OMG AMAZING ETF2L SUPER WEEK!!”, where on Monday/Tuesday the 4th vs 3rd game takes place, Wednesday/Thursday winner vs 2nd game takes place, and Sunday the final takes place.
You will be suprised at how ‘available’ teams are when they are forced to play on certain dates, when there are prizes involved.
The system arx is talking about looks good!
Yeh, it’s good.
One of the things about the current system that we talked about was how it’d create drama about who picked who, in a Team A disrespects Team C way, and forces Team D into a mismatch. But because nobody apart from Admirable covers TF2, there was no sense of “who will they pick/did they pick the right team?”, unfortunately.
So the current system wouldn’t be missed in that regard!
I see now, does look good.
But ETF2L will actually need to have strict end season dates and keep to them :P
The end of season to playoffs time was a bit to long tbh…
my team managed to fold in that time. but i guess that was because of xmas
ETF2L in general need to cut the shit time wasting and crack the fuck down on those that delay games to ridiculous extents. If a team wildcards, fair enough, but if a team requests that its played some other time in the next 10 weeks, crack the fuck down.
