I’m pretty new to playing competitively, my only experience being in the recent Highlander challenge. Where’s the best place to start?

For example, is it likely for a noob such as myself to get picked up through the 6v6 recruitment forum? I mean, people must get into playing competitive games somehow, right?

Also, I’m slightly confused about the different divisions, and I’m not sure which one I would be best suited for. Any advice?

Hopefully any answers here will help other new people on etf2l.

Thanks

Pick a main class you want to play. Scout, Soldier, Demoman or Medic.
As a player new to competitive TF2, I suggest you look for a Div6 team.

Also, read this useful post: http://etf2l.org/forum/league/topic-12510/?recent=231089

^Thanks guys. I took a quick glance at that before, but I noticed something else this time. The irc channel #pixeltf2.open looks like it may be promising for new players.

Indeed, but it seems it’s not that active at the moment. Hopefully with more players like yourself adding up it’ll churn out games on a regular basis.

if you want to play “proper tf2” don’t go here. Find yourself a nice ambitious team at the lower ends of the divisions and get playing some PCW’s you’ll learn more in one game with a team than you would in 20 lobby matches. Hell even mixes will offer you with a better idea of TF2 games than lobby.

o i be trowled then.

Oh well, I’ll avoid tf2lobby for now. I thought it might give me a bit of practice with 6 v 6 for a change.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Lobby can be fun don’t rule it out.
Mixes and pickups will give you good experience
Ask teams of you can trial. Even if ypu got no chance and its not for a position as such it will still gain you experience.
Don’t be shy when your in a mumble channel. If your quiet and dpnt call enough chances are people will dismiss u without a second thought.

Here’s the most important bit. Make friends and play Tf2!

It’s not a bad place to go for a bit of a mashup but it lacks comms and general teamplay which are essential for entering competitive 6v6 TF2.

Lobby will help you learn a class. So is useful. But you won’t learn a lot about tactics and teamplay.

Lobby will also get you some practice in deathmatching and stuff. Certainly not a waste of time for a newbie at all.

Granted the real fun and good times in TF2 is when the communication and teamwork start to gel and it all clicks into place. Not normal in lobbies, but it often only takes one or two guys on a team to actually use their mics and suddenly everyone starts talking.

Go lobby, use mic, profit.

Lobby is wrong, pickups are a bit better since you need to call.

Getting used to that while gaming = profit.
