WHY AM I GETTING LOW FPS?

2 weeks ago, starting getting realy low FPS. Had an 8800GTX then in 1 week my GPU died. So guessed it was down to my GPU being on its way out. So today, i bought a Radeon HD 5770 installed onto a new hard drive with windows 7 and im still getting low fps. Even on low settings, im getting about 20 fps..

Before people start recomending me to get mores config, tried that before – made no difference.

Any ideas?

There are a few potential problem places, but the main one I’d point to is drivers.

You installed CCC right?

Have you also checked your fps_max cvar?

And never heard of fps_max cvar..

CCC is Catalyst, ATI’s GPU driver/software bundle.

As for fps_max, just make sure it is set to 120 or over in game.

Cool, installing catalyst now.

Also, my cpu is only 2GHz core2duo. Never had problems with it before so cant see it being my cpu? However i might OC my cpu…?

Installed Catalyst, should it make my fps better just being installed or do i need to tweak it? Its still 20/30 fps..

Be

maybe something to do with your cpu aswell? cause source games get alot from the cpu?

2ghz will bottleneck that card, but not to 20/30fps unless you are running at a moderate res.

You shouldn’t really have to tweak around with Catalyst, if it was an issue with the drivers installing Catalyst alone should have fixed it.

The fact that m0re’s fps config does nothing in terms of FPS does definitely indicate a problem somewhere down the line.

Hmm, any overclock masters? :p

I have overclocked pretty much every computer I’ve ever had, it’s not particularly complicated. What are you wanting to know?

Might be better to discuss it on Steam if you like, if you want add me and I can give you some help with OCing.

Hmm, clocked my proccessor to 2.8GHz from 2.0GHz. Big difference in game play, however it still says its like 30fps in netgraph. But it feels like 60+..

Oh well, think its fixed for time being. Thanks all. :)

sometimes the pc needs a restart because the display informs you you have high fps but still you see the game lagging.

my problem is different… I get an almost constant about of Loss from net graph which is between 10 and 40 and I absolutely no idea how could this happen: this doesnt make me hear some important sounds (heavy spinning and shooting, the train in well, some normal scattergun shots etc) and doesnt make me see the opponent clearly… I’m actually worried this is a problem in my cables; its been happening regoularly from a few weeks and I have no idea what to do about it (the rates are fine, as my hardware)

i had a 2.5dualcore and my game ran like shit with a 4830 ati gpu, overclocked my cpu to 3.33ghz and now its fine, so ye its the cpu, buy one as long as you have a good gpu so that you enjoy both
