Any suggestions? I’ve been using my current one for 4 years. it came along an old computer I bought.
Something that is somewhat cheap but good.

Also, opinions on razer blackwidow?

This is what i’ve currently got http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-eMachines-PS-2-Wired-Black-Multimedia-Keyboard-KB-0705-US-ENG-/200978664193?pt=PCA_Mice_Trackballs&hash=item2ecb430b01
How will the mechanical one be any different from mine?

I suggest spending some money on a mechanical keyboard. You will be spending countless hours grinding away at it anyway, it might aswell be comfortable and durable.

I have personally used the steelseries 6Gv2 and the Zowie Celeritas but I can’t really compare them to anything else, and I prefer the 6Gv2 because I like reds more.

Here is a picture, not really sure how accurate and up-to-date it is. But it might give you a rough idea. http://gwiki.xach.org/images/8/8a/Mechanical_Keyboard_buying_guide.jpg

If you can’t afford one right now, I suggest getting a really cheap one and upgrading as soon as you can.

Alright thanks a ton. Anything that really stands out from the below 100$ category? Or something that’s pretty standard?

CMStorm one is pretty decent for the price I’d say, but I would first try some mechanical keyboards out first and get a feel for the switches as you don’t want to invest £70+ on a keyboard and not like the way it feels.

Recently got a Noppoo Choc Mini. Amazing little thing. Has all the keys you need as well as a fuck tonne of extra media controls, program hotkeys and the ‘numpad’. Great if you’re tight on space. Got it for £55 on Amazon (inc shipping). Whilst much cheaper than my previous keyboard (Razer Blackwidow Ultimate Stealth), I would consider it to be quite a bit better.

The best way to decide on specific mechanical switches is simply to try out different keyboards with different switches (supposing you’re able to of course). There are significant differences between them and the easiest way to decide which you like best is just through trying them out.

Microsoft SideWinder X4 for sure. Very cheap, and still very good

BlackMirror

The Cm Storm Quickfire TK Is very good and cheap ,it even has backlighting. Its a ,,Mini” keyboard tho so 6 keys are missing. If you have not enough space for bindd or something like that on your current keyboard dont buy this one.

I would highly recommend something mechanical if you can get them, and especially if you can try some out before you buy, since as others have said, there are differences between switches and some people don’t get on with them all.

I’m personally someone who’s used all of the 4 main ones, and I like them all :D Something like the CMStorm Quickfire Rapid is a good quality board at a decent price (at least in the UK), but it is TKL so no good if you need a numpad (you could just buy a separate numpad).
Ducky boards are good and I think their availability in most of Europe is pretty decent as well, nice big range so you should be able to find whatever you want amongst them.

Obviously you should join the 60% master race but not everybody is ready for that ;)

Just don’t get a razer and you’ll be golden.

I thought Sidewinder was horrible. The keys felt out of place compared to any other keyboard.

It could have been because of the macrokeys but it wasn’t a pleasant experience.

If you get a mechanical keyboard, you’ll never want to use anything else again. I bought a Corsair Vengeance K60 about a year ago, and it works excellent. It’s pretty small, heavy and comfortable to both write and play with. Still looks and feels like it’s straight out of the box. Only downside is that it’s probably quite expencive compared to other keyboards.

I don’t know about that, I have had it for 1.5 years and it’s still working perfect for me. And yeah it might be a bit out of place, but you get quickly used to it.

the sidewinder is aids to type on.
the cherry g80-3000 is the cheapest mechanical keyboard you can get, comes in blues blacks clears and reds I think. As it’s an enterprise model it won’t be necessarily advertised as a mechanical keyboard.
Just look up the variants on cherry’s website and you’ll find all the versions.
No the prettiest with no other keys then regular ones but the switches are amazing to type on. Paid 55€ for mine.

I got the choc mini too with red switches and its awesome. f Keys are much more reachable and the removed keys mean the keyboard is in a better position next to my fat mousemat (also fits in bags for lans better).

However the keyboard layout seems to be designed for americans and with the uk driver a lot of the key symbols dont correspond with the keys they output, which is fine once I learnt where everything is however I still have not found the backslash key.. I literally have to google “backslash” and then copypaste lol.

But yeah. I would really recommend using a mechanical keyboard, they feel much more solid to type on. Nearly all mechanical keyboard will use the same set of switches so just look for what you want in terms of shape and maybe a reputable brand.

This. Look up the different types of MX switches, could only link you a good german article now. I’d suggest red or black switches for gaming. As stated above the Coolermaster quickfire is a quite cheap one and the small design also fits to gaming more imho since you have more space for your mousepad, up to you if you need a num block.
