Having all casting/coverage under one roof would be brilliant. Makes it easier to deal with sponsors/tournaments. It’s really a perfect example of “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts”, whatever name or organisation that may be.

Out of everything that has been said in this thread, this is by far the most important point and I completely agree.

Yep. No one needs to feel betrayed, the talent can just start doing more stuff for tf.tv. Enigma reckons there is nothing stopping this happening right now.

Going by what was said here and in last night’s episode of Fully Charged, this is something you don’t just do overnight. People need to talk, consider all sort of things, have everyone faced the right and same direction. Byte mentioned that he, as ‘manager’ so to speak, was (entirely?) bypassed in any of this. This may seem silly or even childish from the outside, but it’s an important and integral part of his role as manager to make sure stuff happens to a certain standard.

On the flip side of the coin, Skyride is getting praise from everyone and their mothers, including Byte and the rest of the staff, which leaves one to wonder if he was ever even given the correct position within the VTF2 staff to begin with. It remains arguable, and not for any of us to decide, whether or not Skyride’s ideas and efforts actually needed approval of a managing head..

But you know, I don’t know all the details. Very few of us do :)

Haven’t read the thread at all, just read your post Adam and just wanted to say you’ll be missed. People don’t know exactly how many hours you’ve put into tf2 in total, but it was a lot. A lot more than you get credit for at least. You’ll be missed within the community – I just hope I still see you around myself.

Probably whenever I decided to play dota2 and fail miserably :D

Love you bud, thanks for everything.

The problem with that, is it eliminates competition, and competition is a huge driving force. It’s nice to have multiple casting orgs fighting for position, as it means the quality has to improve to get an edge over the others.

What there needs to be, is more mutual promotion between the two casting scenes. Everything that goes on teamfortress.tv effectively needs to be linked on vanilla, and vice versa. Use each other’s fan base to generate more views and subscribers for each other.

Oh and about Skyride’s suggestions needing management, in all honesty, I think they did. I think he’s got a very imaginative and creative mind on him, and he’s a perfectionist, but sometimes a simple approach is all that is needed. If Skyride had 100% freedom, I’m sure 90% of his ideas would not need any approval, and they would turn out amazing, but that 10% would be over complicated and have some usability issues or something.

My judgement of Skyride, is that he isn’t a born leader, and could use direction at times (not all the time), but in terms of actually getting things done, there’s no better in this community.

In terms of getting more people to contribute it might be good for the projects who are lacking to be a little more pro-active in the wider community. Encourage people with small competitions. Need more writers? Put up a small comp to get your article posted on TF.TV and Vanilla maybe further incentive. Give them a subject/topic and get the news out there on multi gaming sites, on reddit on the main subforums. People need encouragement to get started and to continue. I’d love for us to be in a position where no Prem game goes uncasted, where discussions and articles are well written and thought provoking. We can only get there with positive reinforcement and a bit of shoving. People like Skyride are few and far between unfortunately.

Some shit like this.

For the past few months, everytime I see a post which basically reduces to “nobody does anything apart from these X people in the community” I just ponder the above.

Veering off that a bit…

I’ve been around the community for a long time, and i’m proud to support it, but I have no particular skills – the biggest thing I have probably done to help is attend practically every iseries I could, including the free tournaments.

The only thing I reckon I could do is write – but tell me, what do I write about? I personally don’t give a shit about most teams at the top. I like a bit of drama, of course, but to really be able to write something good you need knowledge on the players or the teams. I’m just a shitter, i’m not going to analyse prem games etc. If I had a niche subject or some knowledge, then perhaps, but i’m at a loss – ideas?

What orgs do you suggest even need help from average shitters?

The suggestion is to move everyone from vtv to tf.tv. They don’t compete so pooling resources would only make things better for everyone. When you create your new channel it won’t compete with vtv, because vtv is dead, nor with tf.tv because they currently only cover NA action. You would be well advised to partner up with them.
