Is anyone else on Virgin still getting these? I am, and it’s really frustrating now..
I did several traceroutes to Josh’s server and Microsoft.com when it started spiking:

I assume you know about virgins throttling? In case you don’t…
If you download a certain amount in a certain time you get put on an absolute junk hub.
I get the symptoms you describe if I hit throttling threshold.
Info : http://allyours.virginmedia.com/html/internet/traffic.html
Could be your router, could be a virus on your computer.
This stood out very clearly to me: 2 163 ms 17 ms 9 ms 10.191.76.1
When you start getting ping problems as early as this, it’s probably going to be the result of either your router playing up or a virus doing something wonderful with your connection
Try hooking up your PC directly to the internet modem first (if it’s possible). You could also hook up another machine to the router and see if the ping problems effect that. If it effects both machines, it’s probably a problem with the router or the internet modem. If it only effects yours, then you’ve probably got a virus
hmm.. I did hook it directly up to the modem, and it was the same.
Im almost certain I dont have any viruses, though none of the other PCs are game-ready (the easiest way to see if im lagging)
My problem is that I’m choking really hard since the last updates. I’m having a Dutch internet connection, so it’s not Virgin problem or anything.

One antivirus can end up saying it’s all clear while another can find some virii. Just get the other PC’s to ping + traceroute the servers you use and see if you get any similar blips.
If that doesn’t work, consider speaking to your ISP about the problem.

Check your rates and see if they’ve been altered in any way, and check your traceroute hops to the server. Sometimes, all it takes is a dead box to give you a world of terrible pings.
Just so you realize guys, i’m no expert at this… I’m just giving you somewhat safe advice that has helped me before.
