To add to this; the way screenshots are taken from the server’s side is by exploiting a bug in the Source SDK. The same bug allows for ANY command to be executed on the client from the server. THAT is where the problem lies. So the big deal isn’t necessarily the fact it takes screenshots, but rather the manner in which this happens. I do like to have my bandwidth back though – I never gave anyone permission to start uploading screens to someone I don’t even know.

The other half of the issue here is that anakin just has his plugin update itself with such functionality, without consent of, or notice to, server owners.

I’m all for catching cheaters, but I am much more fond of remaining in control of how my servers function. This plugin takes that ability away.

Then there’s the fact that the plugin calls home. As if anakin is the sole manager of anything related to cheaters. If my server keeps a log file of possible triggerbot detections, that’s perfect. If these logs are also sent to someone that is in no way shape or form related to me or my servers, that’s not so perfect at all.

It’s only screenshots this time. The bug allows for much more serious things. Where is the line?

This is what I don’t understand. Why are you even asking this question right now? Sure, he could be the vicious one, but he wasn’t, and from now on, you are much more probable to not trust any binary file posted in here than to stuff your boxes with everything people around here deliver. There’s no reason to talk morality or netiquette here anymore.

I think we are all missing the real problem here, servers that enforce minimum rates, I did not give them permission to change my rates, I want my bandwidth back
