What is the normal setup for a low level team as far as calls go? Should we have med main call? What should we really be calling etc?

Any advice appreciated!

dauk

What we do:
Everyone calls their own positions and whenever they spot enemies (where they are, what class, if hes full or half or etc.).
What medic does: he calls what rollouts should we do, when to push and what to focus when pushing and when to fall back.

Also at least I (demo) say when can we push in or push out, but nobody does it before medic approves it.

What should scouts call: enemy scouts positions, when they’re distracting enemies, when they’re ready to flank.

I’m back at the start of May, if u want to add and ask me I can mentor you :).

In relation to your question, the best results for main calling in a team is usually the demo/medic. Scouts you can forget because if they die, they can not call anything and as they are on the field with the least health and almost the first on the field the chances of them being able to call is much less. As their chances of dying are usually much higher, I don’t need to tell you that i.e. you start the round and 5 seconds in, you lose a scout gg wp no more main caller.

Some clans like to use soldiers as callers, which can actually work but not for rollouts usually, unless you have set strats after the rollout a soldier can main call again not ideal tho as he’s never the frontline and hes almost the last class on the field in most situations. Which means he can’t see nor calculate as much.

So that leaves the demoman and medic. Ideally if a medic can do it then that is the better choice, however as I’ve had to main call as demo since I started playing TF2, I’m more towards a demo calling because the demo is far, far more infront on the battlefield then the medic, also he knows whats weak whats trapped and so on. So you lose some information which can make all the difference into winning.

Conclusion, medic or demo.

Cheers

Nice thanks guys! Byte I will add you indeed for some more feedback, it is appreciated. Actually in 2008 when we first played the game you came on our comms and gave us a few lessons which were very helpful! Sadly we quit TF2 shortly after but we are back full force now.

All I do as medic is call pushes/rollouts/uber(kritz) percentages and of course, the customary “SCOUT ON MEEEEEEEEEEE” and “SOLLY JUMPED MEEEEEEEEE” and “SAVE MEEEEEE” (optional) :P

Most of the time I rely on my teammates to give me feedback.

and yes, what Byte said :D

hmmm, I call rollouts, uber advantages/disadvantages, pushes/retreats, were i want ppl to hold/watch, my position, my health, if im being attacked, if i see something no one has called. Basically everything I can think of atm :)

Basically as a medic you have to rely on your team making correct and clean calls for you to interpret, my personal prefrence is having a demo or pocket soldier as they are in better positions to make calls imo, but I still enjoy doing it when needed.

Unless its a mix or the team I’m mercing with already has a maincaller

(im a medic btw :D)

And medic is the frontline? Soldier calling can be viable. Mainly because the medic is not in front of the soldier most of the time and can’t base his calls on what he sees but only on what he hears. Medic is good for calling because he doesn’t have to look straight at the enemy during combat (no aiming required) allowing him to get a better grasp of what is going on.

At a low level, it should be whoever has the loudest voice, best gamesense and most importantly – who actually wants to call.

Once you’re higher and everyone has decent gamesense, it should be whoever in your team leads the pushes (assuming everyone in your team doesn’t actually mind calling). This all comes down to your teams style, some use scouts to initiate damage, some use soldiers and some use demos.

For example in our team, the soldiers put the main damage on the enemy team during the push with our demo coming and laying on additional hurt from mid range. I usually stay and watch the enemy scouts and act accordingly, helping to take down aggressive enemy players asap and occupying their scouts, while focusing on staying alive. I’ll then mop up whatever remains from the heavy battles.

With this style, our soldier main calls as he’s the one who decides when to initiate the first push. Plus he’s mega keen and bossy.

Another thing I forgot to mention: as a scout, you need to actually focus while DMing, whereas on soldier or demo you can just sort of aim in their general direction and the floor around them. Scout requires more finesse and focus to dodge and aim considering a fart will kill you if you aren’t careful.

I find it much harder to track people as a soldier than as a scout kuma…scout has the easiest dm.

Hearing FIR scream for his life is hilarious, man. Sometimes I even let the scout/soldier kill him just for lolz.

Byte has spoken, all must bow down to the will of Demos main calling for their teams.

Get used to it Crashsite/Dharma/Pikachu <3
