valid criticism and he gets told to shut up……. No wonder tf2 is dead

Just accept that you’re a failure.
valid criticism, sure. I do agree with some of the points he made earlier, but that line simply went too far in the direction of “trololmesogoodandusobad”.
His points were actually all replied to

and while I agree that some replies arent that satisfying, most issues could be/were worked out pretty easily.

It’s not though. There was quite a few issues initially with the bot (I wrote it in my spare time over 2 weeks and it involved more code than all of the custom features written for the ETF2L site in the 3 years), but they eventually all got fixed over the course of about a month. Everything else he is saying is pretty much unsubstantiated whining.
I don’t want to raise the stakes or anything here cause I really don’t know that much, but I have several distinct memories all of which are very much spread apart from each other of occurances in which I came to play a pixel pickup only to find the bot was broken or the servers werent updated despite the fact the update was 24 hours ago etc etc. I’m not raising any substantial criticism here, but even in it’s later period I never felt like I was using a stable reliable system.
Gotta agree with Kaidus here… There was no “initial” period of unstability, the bot and servers kept having their problems throughout. Don’t get me wrong Skyride, you did AWESOME work on the servers and channel(s), but the technical problems were kind of a problem yeah. I used to be super keen on pixelpickup but the only reason I stopped going there was because it was all 1 big gamble if everything would work.
Oh, and don’t forget, around the point of all the pixelpickup problems, S8 was coming near, or even starting, so people started playing more with their own teams again, I think. There were multiple causes.

i’m in the process of setting up mentoring for three people at this time.

good things come to those who wait.
xD
face it, skyride is too big for tf2 now.
Then again, that isnt as insulting as intended
I don’t disagree, there’s a need for a pickup for this the exist. Currently, lower div players with an ambition to get better, are out of options.
Honeymustard’s post describes the problem perfectly. Surely, none of those problems happened as often, and most of them can be explained. But, fact is, for people who play, the pickup has one very simple purpose: To get together a quick fix of 6v6.
As soon as things don’t run smooth, as people start fucking about, they’ll lose faith in that happening and will rather A. not play, or B. do the job themselves, by gathering a mix.
There’s still a demand for a pickup like this, but it needs to get a better focus on the core of why it’s there. Get a *one* simple, reliable and accessible system. And stick to it to the bitter end.
I played like 10 pickups and didn’t have one problem further than the bot disconnecting in the first few days. Not really sure that effected my experience of playing TF2 though.
Stop whine.
First 2 weeks of pickups where really really fun actually, it’s then people took the piss and started fucking about that it got shit.
but I guess that had something to do with poor server quality + bot amirite?

More like people being really bad and team members not being at places you’d expect them to be.
I don’t think this thread is for a review of #ptf2.pu.
I think the question is; if someone/people made a STABLE pickup channel of some kind, is the lower skill level part of the community going to be enough to support it?
Or high skill level or whatever, idk wasn’t really reading this thread past the bitching and whining.
So, are there any pickup channels that still exist for low/low+ players? Playing Medic in lobby is getting very tedious. Unfortunately, I never really got around to using IRC for pickups while I was still learning the basics.
low/low+ players cba using irc, that’s why the .open died even before it had been born. Use tf2lobby, it’s the only thing really.
skyride be cool and start it again 8)
