Don’t spam rockets needlessly, you never know when you could’ve used that last rocket on a scout that was about to jump your medic from behind.

If you’re the one doing the positioning instead of the medic, try and position the both of you in a spot where you have an advantage and an easy way out. Having the medic in a spot where he can fall back fast if needed yet still keep everyone alive is a great advantage.

Oh and support your roamer, if he calls he’s going for a play try and help him out (you don’t have to go in with him but spamming to get him in or a distraction that allows him to make his move can make the difference between a medic pick or dying).

Shoot floor collect kills. Claim that sensitivity means you can’t aim for a week so that any shot you miss are most definitely not your fault.

Mainly listen to calls and react to them, don’t just shrug and expect the scout behind to die, he might appear behind you and two shot your medic and you look like the worlds biggest idiot, i.e. me. React doesn’t mean rj away and go and chase the scout, it means look out for it more than you would usually.

Let the better players get the heals, always blame the scouts when something behind kills your medic and most importantly pray no one is dead and speccing you when you actually have to shoot stuff

Use the fact that your rockets push people. You want to aim in front or directly at your opponents feet to “bounce” them backwards, and away from your medic, to keep him safe. Nobody can hit all rockets 100% direct, so you will want to abuse the splash damage from your rocket launcher as much as possible. An example could be an enemy soldier jumping you and your medic, instead of going for the “heroshot” just shoot at walls and other objects next to him midair. If there are no objects near him, then I usually just shoot one rocket to try and airshot him, as soon as I fire my rocketlauncher I immediatly switch to my shotgun, before the rocket even hits(or misses) to try and “juggle” the jumper with some shotgun shells. As much as 2 or 3 small blasts from the shotgun can change the direction of the jump if hit correctly.

Another thing you want to do, is always look at your hp. If you are constantly at 300 buffed, you will need to use this health, instead of just “wasting” it. If you dont have uber, and none of your teammates nearby are hurt, do your medic, and team a favour, and build the uber. If you have your medic, and you think your medic safe(ish), use this hp boost to jump forward and help your teammates, by taking some of their damage, and helping them by damaging the opponent.

While shotgun might be a very usefull tool, dont underestimate your rocketlauncher. There are many situations where the rockets are superior. You dont need to hit 100% to do damage. If a scout jumps your medic, and your medic is full hp, just blast him with rockets, even if you miss 2 or 3 of the shots. If your medic is not weak at this time, just stick to the rockets, chances are that if you miss with your rockets, you probably arent going to hit him with your shotgun either. When you do get a good hit with your rocketlauncher (70 dmg or so) switching to your shotgun to finish the enemy off is always a good idea.

As a pocket soldier you also have the responsability to keep your medic safe, and in a good position. You have to not only think about your medic, but your team when you postion yourself. You want to be at a place, where your medic is safe, but at the same time can heal up your teammates while they fight.

Thats it for now, will write more if I come up with something, hope I could help.

Tell your medic he should follow you and not visa versa. This way, if your medic dies while not being around you, you can blaim him.

Having played in a team where the pocket solly was supposed to follow the medic for a long time, I’d like to say something in that regard.
If you can make it work (unlike HH2), and/or the medic is the main caller then more power to you but I always thought (and still think) the idea of a slow solly following a medic around is somewhat retarded. Of course the medic following the solly around requires the pocket not to have the downs, so that may be a problem (at least it often is when I’m the pocket), too.

Bottom line, imo the pocket should learn how to support the team and position the medic well and safe, and the medic should cling on and do his job. I have never been able to test this theory though because medics always know best.
