Right, so I would like to hear your thoughts about having halves in TF2 games – i.e 15 minutes (or more or less – blast away your suggestions) to make it as long as a normal map.

What happens on a map like Obscure which can sometimes take 20 minutes a round?

Then the swap happens after that round. Also this could happen for any map, not just obscure (in fact it’s more rare for a round to end at 15 minutes on the dot).

You are missing the point of NA play style. They have halves only because the matches are meant to end with fifth round won by any team and therefore, to not make the game too long, they have also given an hour long timelimit broken down to halves.
Since EU play style is based on timelimit 30 and quite a few decisions are already based on time left in the match, I’m against.

not sure where i said this is influenced by NA
because you know, it isn’t even if its a similar idea
the only reason I would prefer this is #1 to stop any whine/advantages that come from playing BLU or RED, and #2 to make the game quicker (i.e if, as stark asked, a round is being playe for ages due to a stalemate on last, then the teams will have less time to do this, forcing some sort of risky move or shit)
It will promote turtling. Because the defending team can get away with halftime. Not a good thing. Just dont play crappy maps like fastlane where its impossible to push back from last point.

Please watch a few games from ESEA-I first.

Waster has a point here. Besides, if you are losing and want to win, you gotta play the game instead of waiting for a miracle to happen. I guess the example of obscure is evidential here, since it’s a map promoting a passive style, but for crying out loud, this isn’t rocket science, this game is not as schematic as you think it is, just use your brain.
Stop caring, start playing.

had plenty of games with stalemates
when smart players did just that, waited for a miracle to happen
illogical and stupid but its there and is happening outside our windows NOW

Derailing thread…
I actually think the NA structure is far superior to the simplistic EU one.
These EU teams are grinding out too many low scoring victories, playing to a timelimit and sitting back accordingly.
The “dead time” when one team can’t make a comeback because of the 30 minute time limit is fucking depressing!
How much more exciting would Prem games be if Epsilon or TCM were actually forced to push instead of being faggots all the time?
Honk! Honk!
Got any evidence that US games are on average higher scoring? I really don’t follow it at all.
Seems to me that low scoring games are often the most interesting because it normally means that CPs are actually changing hands rather than teams piling on win middle, autocap cp4, have uber advantage on CP5 rounds.
And for gods sake how can Shintaz be such an epic spy if he have to wait cause he knows the opposing team is pushing?
shintaz makes the best game
It does seem to me that very often in matches when a team needs to cap a round or two quickly, they can often manage it. No idea why but we’ve had many a match where one team will take a 3-0 or 4-1 lead or something and then the losing team will bang in a quick double or whatever. It even happened in a Wireplay match for us this season too.
We were 3-1 down, attacking last, with about 6 minutes to go and won 4-3. My point being, maybe the approaching time limit does indeed encourage more risk taking, more caps and therefore, more entertainment. idk. Might be worth a one night cup or something to try it? Maybe 2 one night cups with the same fixtures in the first round, 1 with normal rules and one with 2, 15 minute halfs. Compare and contrast!

FU JB!
Well yank maps are played first to 5 caps or 60 minutes, so in all odds they are higher scoring as they have twice the time to cap.
I honestly have no empirical data to back up my claim and was spouting as per usual :D
I think these back and for cap games happen because certain maps which shall not be named have defense positions which are heavily stacked in their favour, and heavy is not limited to 1… but that’s a whole other story!
Basically in EU you can quite happily slow things down on a 2-3 round lead, but in US they have to get 5; it’s not just a an upper ceiling, it’s a requirement! 60 minute limit is just so things don’t get ridiculous, but I like their intentions.
