I’d like to thank and blame Deneusbeer for this.

He made the etf2l site so fantastically brilliant that people can’t be bothered with the ESL site… or really any other for that matter. The ESL site really isn’t SO bad you can’t find anything, within a minute i was able to find the TF2 section, then news about matches and signups for their ladders.

Wire/Aequitas etc is dire and to be fair is probably a genuine reason if its causing you problems; but to say you didn’t signup because “their site was bad” is a fucking pathetic excuse, I’d always though most people here and fairly intelligent.

Also, I’d like to point out, there was a somewhat big picture of the front page with a link to this:
http://www.esl.eu/eu/tf2/news/126704/EMS-VI-TF2-TCM-Gaming-vs-Team-Dignitas/

None of the following sites had any mention of that:
ETF2L
Vanilltf2
Cadred
FakkelBrigade.eu (may not be a news site, but it has plenty of readers)

(EDIT: Just noticed theres an ETF2L Radio broadcast of this match)

Thats why ESL doesn’t support TF2. If that game was happening in division 1 ETF2L we’d have 3 days notice, a vanillatf2 article, a cadred article and quite likely an ETF2L radio broadcast of it.

The ruleset’s bad I agree, but at this moment in time, if you want TF2 to get big, ESL is a necessary evil.

ESL isn’t as bad as that UKeSA enemy down website. God, that was horrible.

TF2 isnt so popular in ESL

80% of the players in ESL play CS,CSS.

ESL is just for CSS and ETF2L for Team fotress 2.
Just live with that :D

BTW this site is awesome !

ESL is being used more for other games then for TF2, agreed.
But saying that their site is shit is just ignorance or an unwillingness to find out how to use the site…

The main thing they should fix is the problems with the anticheat (doesn’t get updated often enough or something, not sure of this)…
And if the ruleset is bad, the admins should listen to a petition of (top)players. I’ve been using the ESL site for a couple of years now, even been admin (in CSS that is) and I don’t see a problem with it.

And TF2 in EPS…won’t work since you won’t get a decent number of good teams per country.. Might be better to adopt the ‘division’ system from ETF2L and integrate it into EMS, for example: EMS-Pro, EMS-Invite, EMS-Main?

I do hope ESL will accept TF2 and TF2 as a community will learn to accept the ESL:)

oh shit, ive just remember

EPS is a country-event not european one, so if you want to get EPS, your country activity should be big (not european one)

I don’t think that’s true. Even forgetting the bloated crashware of Aequitas/Wire or the full browser takeover ads or the UPGRADE TO PREMIUM LEVEL 20 SUBSCRIPTION bullshit, the website is, by just about every web design/usability standard, utter bollocks.

edit: Also, as a coverage person, I’d just like to say that I don’t think coverage has anything to do with it. Yes, coverage is cool and fun for everyone but the person that has to write it. It’s neat when it happens and it’s done well.

But does it ever effect how leagues go? Not at all. I remember writing a nice preview of ESL season 3 or 4 for Resupply. More than half the teams quit, just like they did for ESL season 5. Another pointless season and another pointless coverage piece.

What about esports heaven? We have pushed that harder than just about anything else, yet we can’t ever fill a bracket.

Agreed, but really, is that a valid reason to not sign-up?

It’s a shit reason for not signing up/completing a season, but a reason nonetheless.

To those who say that ESL is just for CSS and COD4 you are very much WRONG.

If you went to any euro CSS team with UK, French, Eastern European or Scandinavian base (probably 75% of them) they would tell you that for them ESL means fuck all. CSS is now routed mainly in MAJOR ESL EVENTS and LAN event. Major ESL events constitutes EPS and EMS. The EAS is generally a fight between ONLY 2-3 teams. No one wants to play it if they cant get into EPS for which it is the qualifier. The same can be said for COD4. The main reason ESL is sooooo HUGE is because they have secured hard funding for tournemants based on being the staple online competition for pretty much EVERY GAME EVER PLAYED IN GERMANY. However when they start using that success to spread prizefunds over the EU that IS a good thing. Yes the full page ads are fucking annoying but for a few $1000000 in prizefunds yearly i’d be happy with it.

The point is ESL is the big boy that does what fantastic and successful leagues like etf2l dont. Give the teams at the top a huge added incentive to play and thus drive mgos to take interest in the game, which can only be beneficial for everyone (as a general rule)

As for the EPS is country specific, yes thats true. However only 3 members of the team need be the corresponding countries residents and EPS targets the regions with the highest play populations to ensure a good competition.

The organisation of ETF2L is flexibel and is build for TF2. It provides a fantastic platform for the community here. Admins that know what moves the community and support the community in a great way. So you cant compare those two leagues.

I think thats the problem of ESL. They lack the experience, support and time to keep up with the TF2 community. And I wonder if the TF2 community can itself support another league, with ETF2L, Wireplay (still has alot of clans in it) and all the cups, next to all the training you have to do to keep your position. Correct me if I see this wrong :)
