Theres a lot more ways to take down a wrangled sentry. To name a few:
Spy saps + spam.
Airblast engi away from it.
Force engi in the sniper sightlines with spam.
Bonk scout distraction.
Brute force with uber.
I’ll admit that it’s a terribly powerful weapon, but it actually forces teamplay over individual play. So I don’t see the point in removing it at all. And does it slow down play? probably yes, but why is that a bad thing. HL is supposed to be different from 6v6
I can only see a few weapons being banned.
The wrangler
The sandman
The enforcer
The cowmangler
The wrangler because it ups the sentry’s health making it harder to kill. And a smart engi knows how to use this to block most attacks. I know because I love the wrangler for that reason
The sandman because it can stun one player for a time. This instantly turns a the tables against the other team, them being down one player, and most likey getting them killed because they can’t do anything
Do I really need to explain why I think the enforcer should be banned? The down side of it is negated by the dead ringer, cause thats what it was meant to be used with. As well as it making spies better at killing from a distance. I know it has crappy accuracy. but players have learned how to time their shots so it keeps its accuracy. I’d rather see spies with ambassadors then the enforcer
Like what some else has said, it can destroy a defense for a few seconds and let the enemy team in to destroy it. And the only way to stop it would be to need a skilled pyro that can reflect the difficult projectile away. Maye the bison too because it can rip though a crowd, doing multiple hits on one person

all of your brilliant methods assume the engie is alone. pure genius.
See the thing is with the whole debate on the wrangled sentry it seems like everyone sees it as like a big wall to get pass. Yeah the engie is gonna be by the combo and have a pyro by him. But the thing is with the wrangler i really can’t remember the last time i saw a problem with the wrangler.
On badwater i don’t find it a problem at all because you can edge or just collapse onto the sentry and take it down. Take cliff for example just talk with your team get your scout to push the cart uber a pyro around cliff and then follow in with the heavy and demo. That would take most average defenses down.
On another map like lakeside you maybe be able to put a sentry where the sniper stands but you could easily snip the engy down and again edge it and get it sapped.
Upward yeah you could wrangle a sentry down the mid gate at the beginning but again you can be sniped or just push hard left and not take a lot if any damage from it.
Yeah it has no fall off damage but if you have a semi capable spy the engie will be facing forward when wrangling and its an easy backstab especially on maps like Lakeside. might be more difficult on a map like badwater but a couple of the sentry spot on first are easy for a sniper to get a good angle on the engie. Lets remember that the shield only protects the sentry you can still kill the engie with bullets and stuff.
Correct me if im wrong but it seems like people are thinking in a dimensional reason with a wrangled sentry. On places where there are chokes (i.e 5cps) that where it might be a problem, but with the current map pool we won’t find out. However on a PL the engie will normally have to defend on at least two sides and at last check the wrangler can shoot on both sides. Also the objective is to push the cart so why not push the cart whilst distracting the engie and wrangler. If you cap the point and the wrangled sentry is behind you big woop.
TL:DR
i really can’t see the wrangler being a problem. It’s called TEAM fortress and there is this thing called mumble. If you can take down a sentry and heavy in 6v6 play then 3 extra players should be easy to take down a wrangled sentry.
Every weapon in the right hands are OP. But i will admit the game isn’t perfectly balanced.
Cheers,
Jazz

uhm no they don’t, I could have explained more intricate plans in detail but didn’t want to waste my time. The point I wanted to make is that it takes a TEAM to take down a wrangled sentry, which is a good thing. I’m more or less done argueing for this as in this conversation I’m the experienced player and you’re not. An argument that I think is stupid but seems so popular on etf2l :)

it takes a team to take down a wrangled sentry, yes
that wrangled sentry has a team of its own
dont you see the problem with a weapon if the entire team is needed just to deal with it xd?
And this is why I don’t like theorizing too much. Fact of the matter is that Wrangler has become standard, even with voting from people who have played Highlander (although voting doesn’t say much, especially in this scenario). The more it’s been used, the more people have grown positive to it. And now we’re going a step backwards and trying to theoretically evaluate it? Why?
short answer: no
If you need any mentoring I’ll gladly give it to you. Or alternatively I can send you demos that show how to handle the wrangler against top teams.
I just don’t get when teamplay became a dirty word.

don’t get arrogant.
I’ve no need for mentoring, thanks – just explain to me my dillema (how is it fair to have a weapon which when used, needs the entire team to be taken down).

You mean, like the medigun right? It’s not fair or unfair, thats entirely besides the point. It is however part of the metagame and people have adapted to it.
I don’t see you argueing against the medigun. And rightfully so, despite it being the single most overpowered weapon in the game.
PS: I forgot to mention the coolest way to take out a wrangled sentry + team: Come in with an über and fail entirely, but place your own wrangled sentry on a different angle from where the action is taking place. Kill the sentry with a sentry! I promise you, when you do this with your team you’ll feel a lot cooler than when you manage to land a triple airshot.

it has been a part of the metagame (and the single biggest part of it) since the start. also, ive not seen a stock weapon (i.e not unock) ever banned, not that this is very relevant.
pardon the newbie question but wouldnt the enemy team kill your sentry before it upgraded (when placed ofc and built beforehand) as this takes 4-5 seconds?

Probs not as their too focused on the uber and in tf2 an uber is like what a light is to a moth.
Everybody wants to get in and is attracted to it

maybe if its a not too good team but if its one of the better highlander teams, like in 6v6, its probs not

that’s the exact thing scouts are used for in hl .to stop anyone sneaking in etc

of course, but the even better team will have the scout, soldier and sniper with the engi, improving its chances of setting up the sentry
