Hello, I couldn’t find any specific thread for this topic, so had to create one. Can anyone give an competent opinion on how does “high”, i.e. 100-ish, ping affects the game, and is lag compensation is fair or not, so I can refer everyone complaining to this thread? I had a lot of situations when opponent team/player refuses to play against me referring to “lag”, but not explaining me how does it affect them. Also, I have to mention I don’t get any losses/chokes etc. (I am not into that net_graph thingy, but putting it simply I don’t warp).
Afaik, 100-ish ping it’s usual thing for NA players and, well, I haven’t seen anyone complaining even about 200 ms ping, when I played there several times.
tl;dr people are cry babies or it’s really an issue?

Just look at prem and scandi players who play with 60-70+ online and what goes on when they are on lan.. Yes it affects both how you play and how enemy sees you/has to react to your lag, but its mostly negative for you and if someone is crying its just cuz bad. Most usual scenario is the movement lag which makes you hard to hit (not if you actually aim at body, its more of a feel issue cuz ur movement is delayed) and the fact you could kill behind corner which also is just perception as you cant really kill anyone behind corner, its just the lag on receiving side.

This forever confuses me tbh. I was under the impression that lag was horrible for yourself, but then I done some american games with a stable 130 ping and found I hit far, far more as sniper (I am usually the worlds worst sniper so hitting anything was considered an upgrade!).

Lol, saw envy kicked from a lobby today because of his ping with no explanation. ;-)

I don’t feel the ping difference a lot, only if a pipe somehow kills me out of corner or stuff like it. And when people have high ping, they move in front of my screen a bit weird. But lags ≠ high ping.

The only advantage is as sniper where lag compensation can help to assist slower reaction times.

So if you are getting on a bit like myself at the grand age of 22 it can improve your hits. But not your aim. However if you have the reactions of a 12 year old anyway I doubt t makes much difference.

Thanks for replies everyone. It’s more clear now.

I was thinking about that it was strange too. As from my experience, hitboxes are kinda offset, but not larger. Using “good connection” settings moves them slightly behind enemy, and “bad” one is keeping them on the right place, but delay before hit registration is much more longer. Maybe I am mistaken.
