Lately I’ve been getting fps drops (dipping below 60 fps), lag spikes, freezes and everything that comes with it.

I’m currently using these settings from Chris:

// Good connection
cl_cmdrate 66
cl_interp 0
cl_interp_ratio 1
cl_lagcompensation 1
cl_pred_optimize 2
cl_smooth 0
cl_smoothtime 0.01
cl_updaterate 66
rate 60000

And In game I’m getting results like this: http://imgur.com/Wc3h2,fpOFf#0 (there are 2 images)

I’ve done an -autoconfig startup of tf2, removed the team fortress 2 folder and tried default settings but none of it matters.

I’m thinking it could be something related to my internet connection, but I don’t really consider it bad: http://www.speedtest.net/result/2172930808.png , http://www.pingtest.net/result/69242888.png

My computer currently has the following specs:

Windows 7 64bit
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 @ 3.33 Ghz
4GB RAM
AMD Radeon HD 6950 2GB

Any ideas, suggestions?

Ok so yeah I reinstalled Windows (had to due to a motherboard change and CPU upgrade) but now it’s even worse. :)

I know the pain – I cleaned up my TF2 directory a week ago and instantly lost 20 fps from timedemos.
Life’s good.

1. Right click steam icon in tray, click settings, go to tab “Download+Cloud” and ENABLE the option “Enable Steam Cloud Synchronisation for games which support it”

2. open steam, go to library, right click TF2, properties, tab updates, UNTICK the option “Enable Steam Cloud Synchronisation for Team Fortress 2”. Then go to the first tab, and click “set launch options” and clear ANY thats there.

3. Right click steam icon in tray, click settings, go to tab “Download+Cloud” and DISABLE the option “Enable Steam Cloud Synchronisation for games which support it”

4. Start TF2, Options, Multiplayer, UNTICK the option “synchronize with the steam cloud” near end. Close TF2.

5. Close Steam (as in, click in the tray and choose EXIT)

6. press winkey + R (winkey = between CTRL and ALT lower left of keyboard) and type in: “regedt32” without the “” and press OK. Browse to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareValveSourceTf and delete the “settings” subfolder.

7. Go to ..steamsteamapps*your account name here*Team fortress 2″
delete ALL but the “tf” folder.

8. Go to ..steamsteamapps*your account name here*Team fortress 2tf”
delete ALL but the “maps” folder.

9. Go to ..steamsteamapps*your account name here*Team fortress 2tfmaps”
delete ALL subfolders but not the files within the “maps” folder.

that concludes a reset to all

Steamcloud needs to be turned OFF, cos there is NO way to delete what is up there, you get it downloaded everytime you start TF2, if you want it or not, if you changed it or not etc. the only thing they do is up the config of your when you close the game. And of that, I’m not even sure, cos I’ve seen things come back that I had set in a autoexec.cfg differently EVERYTIME I launched the game. No idea why it is default on. Sure would not want that.

you may:
– lose favorite servers
– any mod, downloaded stuff like skins, mods etc. They will redownload when you visit the server.

the only settings it is NOT resetting is the “rate” value in the game, cos that one is for some strange reason located in HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareValveSteam key “rate” value… depends on what you had set it. Default is 10.000.

“steamcloud” is saving locally the settings in: ..steamuserdata”xxxxxxxx”…
(with a 440 subfolder in it)
