The best way to learn any programming language is by creating small test projects and trying out new stuff that you want to learn, not by having a huge project that you are in no way able to handle without the required knowledge from the test projects.
To no person in particular: are you fucking going to deny the existence of such great project just because it was coded by a total programming newbie? Why won’t you just say that aloud?
Stop arguing about Night’s lack of experience, as has been said, he had learned a ton from the beginning, he was supported by many competent people along the way, his project has a great chance of success.

There isn’t necessarily a difference. If one makes a project in which one intends to test stuff out, it doesn’t really matter if that’s a big or small project.
It’s what you do with it that counts ..oh wait

My point is that it is better to experiment with smaller projects where you need to do the least amount work before you can try something new. Not knowing what you are doing will result in a code horriblier than skyride’s. :P
But what do I know, I haven’t even bothered to see what Nightbox has done.
small projects doesnt give you an overview image. But what’s your point ? You say, leave tf2mm alone, go code small projects ?

A half a year ago the only thing you were capable of coding was a couple of ‘if’ conditions with one floating point integer and a print to the screen. I don’t know how much you’ve improved but I’d suggest that you do something simpler, like a small text adventure game.
But, seeing as you already got half the continent hyped up for tf2mm, it would be a really horrible decision to stop working on your project.
All I’m saying is that your code might be broken. (Not trying to make you look bad, just stating the obvious)

Let me assure you that the person posting is not me, or anyone I personally know. I have no desire to discuss Nightbox’ project where he can’t see my critisism. The only place where you will find me knocking on tf2mm is on the first few pages of this thread. This is because I was still mad at Nightbox’ way of leading a project.
I post in this thread because I am indeed interested in how this project will end up. I bring up things that I feel must be brought up. I jumped on the “Nightbox can’t code” because I have never seen him do anything other than a few simple conditionals, which he needed help with. This was a half a year ago. I have no knowledge of how Nightbox has improved over time, but it is hard for me to believe that Nightbox is able to program well enough to create tf2mm. Believe it or not, I want Nightbox to succeed. The idea behind the project is quite intricate and I would love to see the successor to tf2lobby.
I do not, in any shape or form, hate Nightbox or tf2mm. I am just sceptical in his ability to finish. I am not in any way bashing on his abilities to program. I am just questioning them.
As for the video, shove it up your ass. :)

I read over what I wrote, and I want to point out that on the gotfrag page, the log is real. That is me having a conversation with Nightbox right after I decided to quit, however, the person posting the log (“h3h3h-nightbox”) is not me.

for the record, i helped nightbox on irc, but the amount of errors (have you seen it yourself dunc? if so, you know this too) suggests this is nowhere near being ready to go live.
why would i be jealous of a system i don’t think is going to work?
if you really want to help nigh, then don’t turn this thread into a petty squabble just because i am pretty pessimistic about this whole idea. maybe then the spam i get every time i do /read on my bouncer of “are you there chris, can you help me with X” will go away.
i wish nightbox the best with this project, but if i want to be pessimistic about it, i will be.

nah Spike, his point is simply that dunc did indeed do some things, TCL being one of them and organising stuff mostly, iirc resupply/vanillatf2 was his idea too? dunno really, dont care anymore either.
It’s a good thing to add resources etc to the community, but if you do it for bragging rights, then fuck right off I say, and that goes for everyone. Where’s the point in advertising something that isnt even done yet?
Also, how about not fighting about who’s done more but instead FIGHT TO DO MORE and benefit the community instead of flaming the shit out of each other. Jeez.
