AFS Rule Updates – June 2025

Date May 27, 2025

These rules changes will be in place from the start of the 6v6 season (09/06/25). Changes for existing rules are marked in bold.

We are actively discussing other rule changes and there are a few things that we plan to discuss further and make decisions on in the future (once we have gathered feedback and discussed them in-depth). We welcome any suggestions and feedback and will be happy to discuss them going forward. Thank you.

1.10. Team and Player Sponsorships

Any reference to gambling websites, cheating platforms/services or content unsafe for minors is forbidden. This includes: Player Names, Player Tags, Team Tags, Team Names, Team Profile Pictures and any other content on any ETF2L platform.

5.4. Servers must be started with “-sv_pure”

Match servers must have the parameter “-sv_pure” or “-sv_pure 2” in their launch options to support the sv_pure setting. The sv_pure Console Variable (ConVar) must be set to 2 in all ETF2L competitions. Any mods that bypass the sv_pure settings during ETF2L official matches are strictly not allowed.

6.1. Bug-Using is not allowed

Examples of banned exploits:

Overriding cooldowns on consumable weapons to enable them to be consumed quicker than intended.
Use of binds that enable faster than intended weapon switch speeds

Example of change #1:

6.3. Scripts

Examples of banned scripts:

  • Charge-turn scripts and binds that enable smoother turning, a radius of turn not otherwise possible and or tighter control of your turns. This includes but is not limited to:
    • The use of peripherals to achieve sharper turn angles
    • Use of m_filter 1 to enable smoother/sharper turns
    • Use of binds or scripts that alter your FPS cap mid-game to enable smoother/sharper turns
    • Any form of stackturning

  • Commands that cause artificial waits. As example:
  1-Tick C-Tap:
  alias "+ctap" "+duck 1; -duck 1; +jump 1; -jump 1"
  alias "-ctap" ""
  bind "mouse2" "+ctap"

Explanation from the Anti-Cheat team:

Over the past few seasons, we’ve received a lot of feedback and tickets regarding demoknight and the abundance of scripts/binds used by demoknight players in competitive formats. After a lot of discussion and testing on our side, we have decided on the above changes for the upcoming 6v6 season and plan to assess what impact they have on the strategy. Ultimately we felt that these advantages nullified the drawbacks of demoknight unlocks (specifically the Splendid Screen) in an unnatural way and as a result were not fair to play against in competitive formats.

Lastly, we also don’t want to be seen as discouraging new strategies which is why we want to monitor these changes over the season and see how it impacts the viability of demoknight without having to ban specific weapons. We plan to gather more feedback from the playerbase postseason regarding the changes and whether they were too much, too little, etc.

About the C-Tap Script:

By default this should not be possible to have wait ticks due to the server having sv_allow_wait_command set to 0. However some elements within the console bypass this block. Bypassing this is not allowed.

1-tick C-Taps are still banned. Other C-Tap scripts are fine.

6.4. Game Modifications

Examples of banned modifications:

  • Any method that uses an external executable, program, script, and/or attachments to TF2 to replace textures, player and map models, particle effects, etc.
  • Using LOD tweaks to enable greater visibility for stickybombs

6.8. Interp limitations (New!)

It is prohibited to use interp settings that go above the 0.1 (100) threshold. This also includes using binds/scripts to alter your interp settings mid game above the allowed threshold.

demoknight rule change doesn’t affect me or odin in the slightest but nerfs low-medium end pc users for no reason. ok

hi, about the m filter 1 rule, without it i turn like 10 degrees over an entire charge while slamming my hand across my desk and into the wall, with it i get a more reasonable ~90 degrees turn. all of this is with boots btw.
i dont even play demoknight that much outside of specifically benign infiltration wave 5 its just something i noticed

@That1DireWolf if your mouse polling rate is lower than your fps, you will turn less. this game is fucking stupid

  18. SolarLight: anw said:

also m_filter only really works at lower fps’s like 60. if you’re playing at 144 the effects are nerfed, and past 300 it barely has an impact on turn rate. it was only really used by players who were not able to brute force 600 fps like me and odin
