6v6 Season 50 + Provisional Schedule Update 2025

Date May 22, 2025

Hey everybody, its time for a provisional schedule update. Starting with Season 50. We’ll be delaying it by 1 week. The updated schedule is the following:

  • Signups: 12th May – 9th June
  • Provisional Tiers: 4th/5th June
  • Group Stages: 9th June – 16th July
  • Playoffs: 17th July – 31st July

Rest of The Year

We’ll keep exact dates a bit ambiguous as we’ll determine tournament structures and setups based off feedback from ongoing tournaments. With that kept in mind we’ll aim to announce seasons a bit further in advance confirming potential changes so teams can adjust as needed.

All these dates (apart from s50) are provisional, vague and subjected to change. They encompass the regular season and playoffs.

  • 6v6 Season 50: June 9th – July 31st
  • Highlander Season/Tournament: August 1st – September 20th
  • 6v6 Season/Tournament: September 21st – November 14th
  • Free Slot: November 14th – December Before Christmas
    • Likely Highlander
  • 6v6 Season/Tournament: January 20th – March 15th
    • Dependent on a potential PoLANd, this season is aimed to wrap up before the LAN event

Why The Shift And Why The Adjustments

We’ve not really done a lot of changes to the tournament structures for quite a while. However we want to see if we can adjust tournaments to cover for a few issues that the existing systems have been struggling with.

Long Gaps Between Seasons

If you miss out on a season you’re out of competition for generally 6 months. We want to lower this and hold competitions more frequently. Highlander got the shortest stick at the end of last year/begin of this year and had a historic almost 8 month gap between seasons. We don’t want to repeat this.

Skill Gaps

As a player base shrinks, skill variance between teams becomes bigger. This isn’t particularly an issue on its own however when combined with some rules like the Skill Contribution Rule, Class Restrictions, Hijacking Rule, … this does start becoming an issue. A lot of players have had run ins with these rules causing issues. This has also been equally causing admins headaches.

As we can’t help the skill variance we instead need to tackle our rules and systems present to handle this hoping to still have fair and fun competitions. This will be a learning process for the staff so we will be making mistakes, please be patient while we find good balances for everything and try to consistently improve.

Admin Workload

The regular 7 week + 3-4 week playoffs have a heavy admin workload during its setup period and has certain overhead. Next to this certain rules are a bit too ambiguous causing a lot more endless discussions and issues.

Instead we’re aiming to have a stable structure that can once again get repeated easily without a lot of discussions being required on the admin side.

Nations Cup

Our previous provisional schedule had a nations cup part of it. However with its decline in participation we want to revisit how we tackle the tournament.

We do think there is something important about connecting with people from your own community. Finding a better structure and planning out the logistics for an adjusted Nations Cup is something we’ll slowly work on for both the future of it within Highlander and 6v6.

We’re open to suggestions and discussions to tackle some elements like the limited pool of participants, high skill gaps between the varying countries and difficulty of the logistical organization for certain countries. Both teams lacking players or teams with a lot of high level players that as a result have to sit out.

Fresh Meat & Highlander Open Tournaments

Similarly to the nations cup we’ll not be running these 2 tournament that were in the original schedule. We need to do some better analysis on what would bring newer players to competitive, and work on better publicity for the league.

For now we’ll aim to have a Fresh tier available for teams that are mostly new to competitive TF2 within our regular seasons. In the mean time we’ll aim to get our publicity parts off the ground for our regular seasons to already try and bring a new influx of players in these.

We’ll hope to bring these competitions back in in the future.

    you made me log in

you change a schedule like 5 times, then stick to it through half of the year. Cancel NC, cancel small cups for newbies. Are you mad? How to improve? uhm, actually stick to what you have posted before? Zero credibility.

How to promote the newbies cups:
-actually have the ads on kritzkast or tftv
    -have streamers promote it
-make some players get a team and run a little competition

for highlander open cup, maybe change the name of it? Even admins are confused each time they hear about highlander open cup and they think i’m talking about regular season

NC cup, promote it as well, have some annoucements. You drop a schedule at the start of the year, then spam the site with 4 posts and you expect people dig in for that information? Spread the word in big discord servers, streams, same as the ideas with newbies cups. I’m sure that there are better options, i just thought about it for 1min

AND you delay the things cause of that

Promote it on Skial, Uncletopia and other servers. Ask them to make one team and name it “Skial Team “Uncletopia Team” wahtever really.

If you need a help, ask for it. You just want to cancel NC one month before it was supposed to start? Ask the leaders whats up with the teams? Are you that busy? I’m sure that inactive mid players have lots of things to do

Stinghan all the things you’ve mentioned have already been tried more then a decade ago. You’re reinventing running water.

Promotion and ways to reach new players has to go through new lines. All these traditional promotion methods you’re mentioning were relevant 15y ago but don’t work well enough today. They have been tried.

The provisional schedule is a provisional schedule nothing in it is final and its permanently available inside of the menu bar. “and you expect people dig in for that information” Its literally behind one click…

Yeah Nations Cup is delayed because running it for 22 teams from which most games are stomps is not an interesting tournament.

Every HL season AND nations cup EVER has been that way, why change it now when people who were making teams for said cup and were planning on signing up were excited and willing to play?

    @aoshi
Ok then, what’s your agenda now for those kind of events? because i haven’t seen anything but promoting GRAND FINAL of nc/those cups by tf2 announcement. If you don’t do anything, don’t expect the things to get better. I just gave you couple ideas as you wished in the post. I understand you dont get anything but a role on discord for being an admin but it’s not an excuse for not trying harder. You could also show the provisional schedule on kritzkast/tftv streams so more people would see it. Literally anything towards getting more players in.

About NC, I don’t think delaying it would change anything at this point. People who are interested in playing/leaders know that it’s every 2 years around summer

People play Nations Cup because its a chance to play with people from your country and it provides a nice sense of patriotism for players, that’s the main reason people sign up for it
