What’s the Fresh Meat Challenge?
Tell me if this sounds familiar, you are new to competitive TF2 and:
- You want to play competitive TF2 but you are afraid you’re not good enough.
- You want to play competitive TF2 but you find it hard to find a team.
- You want to play competitive TF2 but you have no idea what you’re doing.
Welcome to the third edition of the Fresh Meat Challenge! Here we host a Cup designed mainly for those NEW TO COMPETITIVE TF2.
However those who are long-standing members of ETF2L, we need your help as well, there will be hundreds of new players in need of guidance and we’re calling on you to be the ones to offer them insight on how to play the 6v6 format.
If you’re organizing a team for this event we recommend looking for an experienced player to help you out. We also recommend that you read through our match guide to get a good understanding of how matches tend to go.
Questions & Answers
Q: Who can play?
A: Anyone can play! As long as they don’t meet any of these criteria:
- Maximum 10 matches in ETF2L Open played.
- Played in ETF2L Open playoffs or above. This does not include cups.
- Played in Quarter Finals or higher in the previous Fresh Meat Challenge.
- Played in UGC Silver or above (the number of UGC Iron or Steel matches will not be counted with ETF2L Open games).
- Played more than 10 matches in RGL Amateur or above.
Note: 6v6 and HL experience count equally.
Q: I heard you can have buddies. What are they exactly?
A: Fresh Meat Challenge is also open for more experienced players. These players are limited to 2 per team and can only play Medic. So you can only use one of them in game.
Q: Is there anything to win?
A: Just like in our previous Fresh Meat Challenges there will be Medals for everyone playing it. We are looking to get together a prizepool for the Top 3 as well but we cannot give out any definitive answer at the time. If you wish to participate to the prizepool follow this link.
Q: What is the format for the Fresh Meat Challenge and when will it happen?
A: The cup will be like a short 6v6 Season. So that means that you will be playing 4 matches over 4 weeks followed by a one week knockout stage.
- Signups: 10th – 28th April
- Group Stage: 30th April – 26th May
- Knockout Stage: 28th May – 4th June
Q: How can I join a team or create one?
A: This information can be found in our FAQ – https://etf2l.org/faq/
Q: I don’t really know what competitive is. Are there any guidelines?
A: Yes there are. We have one of our own and you can check it out here – https://etf2l.org/new/
Rules
Our General Rules and 6v6 Rules will apply to the exception that players will be limited to a maximum of 1 roster change per competition, with all rosters locking after the group stage.
Schedule & Map Pool
The tournament will be divided into a group stage and a playoff bracket, with the Group Stage seeing teams playing over a 4 week period using the Swiss System (see explanation).
The top 8-16 teams (depending number of signups) will qualify for the Playoff Bracket, which will be a single elimination event with each fixture being contested as a best of three map event. The maps will be decided using a Map Elimination method, which you can read more about here.
