ETF2L Recruiting & Staff Updates

Date July 23, 2014

Recruitment

Regardless of the exact line of voluntary work you’re interested in, you should take a look at this site, listing some general information regarding working with us.

League Admins

With several admins closing in on retirement due to old age and/or summer vacations, plus a rather sizeable amount of additional work due to the Highlander Open we’re looking to bolster our ranks with some fresh meat!

Among other things league admins take admin requests on IRC, deal with match conflicts, handle the setting of default dates and the verification of played matches. They also create and oversee cups – and everyone loves cups!

If you are interested in supporting the administrative backbone for the league, you should check out the details on the respective application page.

Anti-Cheat Staff

The HLO also increased the amount of anti-cheat work by a sizeable margin, plus we need more Sunday ban posts.

AC members need to have a good sense of trust and morality, additionally be excited by detective work & technical aspects of the source engine that come with demo viewing and cheats and such. It’s also important to have no bias and be respectful of the democratic process on voting.

Please don’t be intimidated to apply, it’s a position that you can really only improve on with real experience.

Check these guidelines for a more in-depth description of the application process.

Site Coders

ETF2L is looking for a backend developer who is fluent in PHP and knows his way around jQuery and CSS.

We also use Git, MySQL (MariaDB, actually!) nginx, some Ruby and Python, and of course the WordPress codex, so if you are at all familiar with any of those things, consider yourself lucky!

Due to the complexity of the ETF2L backend, it is of great importance that you know what it is being used for and how it is being used. As such, the ideal candidate would be willing to do some League Admin work preceding and/or alongside their coding duties. You’ll get even more bonus points if you can work in a team as well as being able to take initiative yourself and complete tasks alone.

Working on the ETF2L codebase is a true challenge. It has been modified, managed and cursed by many past programmers with varying levels of skill and different programming standards. For that reason and others it is also important that you can handle confidential information with the appropriate care.

Further details can be found here.

Other

We’re also interested in recruiting Newspost/Coverage Writers, Media Producers/Designers or whichever position you think may be of advantage to ETF2L. So, if you have a very specific set of skills that you want to use to improve ETF2L, please send in your application! You will want to checkout our general page regarding working at ETF2L.

Staff Updates

Recently Lithuania emb has been focusing more on the backend of ETF2L and developing the site to make it easier to use for everybody! With that in mind, he’s stepping down from his role as Head Admin and moving to a Webmaster position where he will continue his work behind closed doors.

This leaves a gap in the standard trinity of Head Admins, and of course this has to be filled by a German. Germany ash has proven to be exceptionally hard working and the promotion to Head Admin is well deserved.

Do you have to have active prior experience for Coverage writer? Think I’ve been convinced to actually apply if I can

Ash promoted to head admin so soon after finishing his trial? The germans aren’t even trying to hide it anymore. Soon permzilla will no longer be needed as the puppet leader for ETF2L and CanFo will rise from the ashes in a torrent of french blood and gamer tears to retake the throne of ETF2L in his holy German trinity.

You don’t need experience, TJB, so just apply if you feel you can do it properly.
