    Dear teams,

Due to team “Indeed REMNANT” using an unnaproved merc the match has been defaulted in favor of team “wer das liest ist klever”.

Honest mistake in forgetting to ask for the merc for the trial we used and are picking up, classic TF2 community lol.

  7. Offside said:

Well, This isn’t the communities fault. This again is a mistake from your end.

  8. konr said:

We forgot to ask for a merc, which is our fault. The merc wasn’t brought up before the game, during the game etc by the enemy team, so it obviously wasn’t like he was carrying or changing the game in any meaningful way. We finished the game and afterwards they realised and decided to default. Just like in your case, they have the right to do that if they so please because it is an honest mistake from us but it is still a bit of a dick move to do so imo. Don’t try to piggyback off this situation to make yourself seem like less of a dick :)

I would understand if we used a higher level merc that we weren’t trialing or something, but we’re literally taking this guy and I just forgot he wasn’t on the roster and therefore forgot to ask. After actually playing that entire game do you not feel like it was an enormous waste of your time? You didn’t win the game, but you get all the points without even earning it because of a mistake that we made on adding a player to our roster 24 hours late?

Again, I’m not saying that you aren’t ALLOWED to do this according to the rules but I just don’t understand why on Earth you would. Are the points that important to you? We came on time, played a fair game, didn’t shit talk and just forgot we hadn’t added a guy to our roster yet. It’s just sad honestly guys. I don’t want to argue here I’m just trying to explain where I’m coming from. I tried to do it in private to Amaterasu but I was swiftly deleted and even beforehand was spoken to relatively bluntly, it felt kinda like you guys were mad before you even noticed our slipup w/ Wiper.

Just because you don’t care that much about points doens’t mean the other team shouldn’t care about points. If their goal this is season is to finish as high as possible why wouldn’t they claim a def win? 6 players played the official last night, and nobody was wondering if a trial should be allowed to play in a match? You can’t blame the tf2 community for caring about the tables and you not knowing the rules (twice).

I disagree here. This seems to have been an honest mistake of Konr forgetting their player was on the roster and from what I can tell the game was close. This wasn’t a case of them getting some top player to carry just for this one game. I actually think the honest thing to do would be to take your defeat and accept that you lost the game.

Its in your right to take the default but honestly you got outplayed and lost and should allow them the win and show some integrity because its only TF2.

TimTum at what point did I say I didn’t know the rules? In the first case you’re talking about we simply couldn’t play on Thursday while also being unable to set a day we could because we DIDN’T KNOW OUR SCHEDULE until AFTER it was automatically done. It’s unfortunate and the issue is on our side but not a case of us “not knowing the rules”.

The second one (this one) I said I forgot to ask because I forgot he wasn’t on the roster already, which again is not me saying I don’t know the rules about asking for a merc but rather that it slipped my mind that we hadn’t invited him yet (he’s now on our roster, so he’s actually our demo, so it would have been no different if I had just remembered and added him the day before).

I also didn’t say that you shouldn’t care about points in any capacity, but rather if you only care about points and not about sportsmanship/actually having fun when playing in mid in fucking ETF2L then you should give your head a wobble so that it might fall out of your ass. At least be honest in your critique of what I’m saying, TimTum. I didn’t a single time say that I didn’t know the rules or that the rules were dumb.

There are plenty of things that are fully within the rules of the league to do but generally, people wouldn’t do in most scenarios because it would be a pointless dick move. In this case, being that it was an honest mistake and our demo has no experience above div 4 most teams would have some empathy and just say they accept the merc and get on with their league play. That’s literally the only point being made here. It’s within the rules but it’s a dick move, that’s it.

I’m not saying what they did is a nice thing do to, but you can’t say ‘classic TF2 community’ just because they don’t share your view about ETF2L/competitive. It’s your opinion that teams shouldn’t only care about points, but that doesn’t mean teams aren’t allowed to only care about points. I understand your frustration but I’m sure most teams would’ve done the same thing. It’s not just about the points, but the placement on the tables can have an impact on the scrims if people care about that (doesn’t matter if it’s deserved or not). Sportsmanship is a different thing but the default shouldn’t change the fact that you were having fun during the match imo.

I agree that ‘not knowing’ wasn’t the right word, I should’ve used something like forgetting. But how are they supposed to know that he was a trial? And he could be an upgrade from your previous demo as well. Sure he hasn’t played above div 4 but some teams do care about that afaik.

  18. konr said:

Of course it’s my opinion, but that doesn’t mean I can’t say it. My opinion is that there are some people in the TF2 community that are probably relatively nice people but for some reason feel like being shitty people when it comes to this sort of thing. I didn’t say they “weren’t allowed”, either. I criticised them for it because it is a shitty way to act in a league that has absolutely nothing on the line and is genuinely for fun. I don’t believe most teams would have done the same thing unless they were desperate for points and don’t care about actually earning them. So far almost everyone that has spoken to me about this said they would have just allowed the merc after the fact.

It doesn’t change that we had fun during the match and we are going to continue having fun of course, but it did leave a sour taste in our mouth after the win. When someone’s a dick to you it doesn’t necessarily have to ruin your entire day for you to point out that it was shitty that they were a dick.

I didn’t forget the rules either dude. I forgot to ask for the merc BECAUSE I forgot we hadn’t added him to the roster yet. If you look at our roster we have picked him up. He is literally our player. Would they have preferred it if we just used Spary (ex-prem) instead who was already on our roster so we could just roll them? We didn’t intend to play without asking to try to get away with anything, we were just playing with who we considered to be our team and it slipped my mind. That’s all.

6 of them played as well and i feel that if they had cared about it they would have pointed it out before playing the game and losing and then defaulting almost an hour after. i dont mind them defaulting for it i personally wouldnt have minded not playing the game and just defaulting right away though instead of wasting effort on a match
