Dear Teams,

welcome to the 3rd Place Tiebraker of the Highlander Open!

Just like for your previous matches our “Map Elimination System” is used to determine the two mandatory and a third decider map.
If you’re unfamiliar with this system you can read up on it here:
http://etf2l.org/rules/general-rules/#10
The map pool used for this competition can be found here:

I’m just going to leave this here, it was posted in the comments of the last match that we were unable to agree on a scheduling time with a EU team.

“Even though this is a European centered event, we will welcome players from other regions with open arms. We will even try to place you into the same groups to ease the process of scheduling matches with your opponents. Against European opponents however, you will have to play on European servers at European times. The usual playing time for ETF2L matches is Sunday’s from 19:00-21:30 CEST. Make sure you are willing to (and can!) play at such times and on European servers before you sign up.”

Looks like its going to be a weekend again.

And honestly the weekend is fair because it let’s both teams play regardless of timezones.

I appreciate that the week is difficult, given the time zone differences, but we did offer 4x 3 hour windows as late as was possible for us that was within the ETF2L rules. I understand that this is really tricky for you, but when it’s not possible for us to assemble a team on a day, we rule it out. Even if we were in the Grand Finals we wouldn’t be scheduling it at the weekend. It’s not personal, it’s quite simply when we can assemble the team.

Also I appreciate the fact that you dont play on weekends, we never did either until last week when we were FORCED to play on that day by the admins citing the rule I pasted above.

See you this weekend sir. Playing in the middle of the day IS NOT POSSIBLE for this team, as people have JOBS and SCHOOL.

So, I know you don’t want to accept that fact, but a fact it is. Per the etf2l rules, the match should take place between 19:00 and 21:30 CEST and we wish to follow the rules.

Eagerly awaiting the next played out meme from your team.

28. _UC said:

well there you go you pussy EU fucks. scared of actually playing the game so you have been coddled yet again by the etf2l admins.

Note their last 3 matches in a row were on weekends,5 of the last 6 were on weekends as well. Now all the sudden they cant play on a weekend because they are against a US team and know that we can’t maek that time due to work and school.

This tourney is a scam, this league is a scam, and the admins are braindead biased fucking fags.

29. _UC said:

PS. fuck you again

30. gless: [{SNS}] said:

I’m sorry but this is bullshit. UC is right with his paragraph even if he swore like 15 times. We have faced 1 EU team and this team and both times the EU team got the best time and the NA teams were getting screwed over because “were not from EU” and that’s the truth no matter what admin tells me otherwise. Weekends are 100% fair, regardless of timezone everyone can play on weekends since there’s no school or work. But on weekdays NO ONE IN NA CAN PLAY IN EU TIMES. At 12 or 1 p.m MOSTLY EVERYONE IN NA IS WORKING OR GOING TO SCHOOL. WHEN ON WEEKENDS NO ONE HAS JOB OR SCHOOL. This league is just bias to EU teams because there from their region. Especially since Fruit Force have played 3 MATCHES IN A ROW ON WEEKENDS. THEN SUDDENLY “OH WE CANT PLAY WEEKENDS BECAUSE TEAM MATES CANT MAKE IT”. BULLSHIT THERE TRYING TO GET A WEEKDAY SO THAT WE CANT MAKE IT AND WE HAVE TO SURRENDER. THEY HAVE SUBS, IF THEY THEIR MAIN ROSTER CANT MAKE IT TO THE MATCH THEN THEY SHOULD JUST GET SUBS. BUT WE CAN’T OUR SUBS HAVE SCHOOL AND WORK SO ITS NOT FAIR FOR US. THIS LEAGUE IS JUST SO FUCKING BIAS TO EVERY NA TEAM THAT FACES AN EU TEAM.

31. Sir.Grey said:

Honestly, I would rather play than not. I’d rather beat you fair and square than get a default win. We can’t do the weekend this time. I’m sorry it’s turned out poorly for you. Best of luck and see you on Thursday. Take care between now and then.

32. _UC said:

you dont wanna play, quit your lying.

33. _UC said:

and we can’t play on Thursday at 3pm (our time), because unlike you (mr 5 of last 6 games on the weekend) we have a LEGITIMATE reason.

School and Work is during the day.

so again, you earned nothing, every time you look at that bronze in your inventory you’ll know you don’t deserve it. you had servers and everything on your side, but you still needed the default.

This entire tourney isn’t getting anyone anywhere, just (yet another) way to show how little respect the ETF2L has to the competitive scene, this was, supposedly, a “good introduction to the competitive scene” but instead a way for etf2l to get a “pat on the back” and a free ride for EU teams down the road with little ass effort. Thanks, btw, to who ever approved the idea of having EU teams fight NA on a one sided server. Again this is just showing the horrible sportsmanship the EU’s have, because, if i remember correctly (and i most likely do) UGC has a great rule on that account
“3.8. Team Ping Differences -If the team providing the server has an average TEAM ping advantage of greater than 100ms, the round must be moved to the other team’s server or a neutral server, such as a UGC server, if the non-hosting team requests. If the hosting team refuses to move the round, and the other team provides screenshots/demos evidencing the ping advantage, the round may be awarded to the non-hosting team regardless of who won the round played. This rule does not apply to teams that are not located within the geographic region of their division(such as non-Euro teams playing in Europe).”
as well as the fact that
“3.1.b Location -Servers must be located in the geographical region of your division; North American division matches must be played on servers located in the United States, European division matches must be played on servers located in Europe, Asian matches must be played on servers located within the Asian region. Aus/NZ matches must be played on Australian servers. South American division matches must be played on South American servers, unless a better server is available in Central or North America. At all times, it is suggested teams should play on the best available server. (A Canadian server may be allowed for N.American division matches, if approved in advance by admins).”
So, in the future if you decide at any point that you want to do another tournament

A) At least try to respect the other teams
B) Look for convenient time for both teams
C) Try to be polite

Concluding, this entire Highlander Open deal was a disaster from the beginning
I don’t understand the level of retardation that was inside the Admins’ heads when they decided that putting EU teams and NA teams together was a great idea
Great Games Fruit Force btw, im sure this was an astonishing ride where everything went your way

50. Sir.Grey said:

Lex, you do realise that following the rules you posted would result in exactly what has happened here, right regarding servers?

Really good rule.
This rule does not apply to teams that are not located within the geographic region of their division(such as non-Euro teams playing in Europe).”
So, you’re an American team playing in a European division. So according to the ruling you just posted, you would be playing on our servers.
3.1.b Location -Servers must be located in the geographical region of your division; North American division matches must be played on servers located in the United States, European division matches must be played on servers located in Europe
Which just re-enforces the above.

As for “decided that putting EU teams and NA teams together was a great idea”, they decided to not restrict NA teams from entering, but warned them in the FAQ right from the beginning what they would be getting into.
Even though this is a European centered event, we will welcome players from other regions with open arms.
They didn’t mislead you. They never promised that you would be playing on completely level ground. They were completely up front that this is a European league and you would be playing on European turf. A ruling that, as you have pointed out, is PRECISELY THE SAME RULING as the one that UGC would have made in the same situation.

By signing up for this competition you automatically agreed to playing on EU servers during EU times. If you don’t like this concept, why sign up at all? Did you not bother to read the rules?

At no point in time did we make any additional effort gathering US teams specifically.
No one pointed a gun to your head and forced you to play here.
If you don’t like competing in ETF2L you are free to go and play somewhere that’s more suited for your demands. There’s plenty of other leagues.

Try to be polite? Please. We’ve been extraordinarily patient and polite.
Though your idea of being polite seems to lean towards calling people “pussy EU fucks” , “braindead biased fucking fags” and retards, telling them to suck dick,go fuck themselves etc.

People who express themselves in such a disrespectful way are not welcome in this league, regardless of their origin.

Alright, as I am too late to make any changes in the ruling, I will still let you all know what is actually happening at the heart and sole of SNS, and will show you a little more about how we act Saga, as UC was not our actual “leader” but someone who had taken the job without my knowledge as I was in the hospital. Next message may be passed off as tl;dr but if you’re curious and want to know a professional side of things and maybe be relieved of the tension between teams, please, I encourage you to read.

61. MrHighway: [{SNS}] said:

IIII am the official leader of SNS, I was hospitalized due to a car crash that was about a half week before the finals matches began. I could not do much from where I was, as I was in a state of sufferance from mild rain injury. UC is a hot head, and never would I have chosen him to continue to lead my team. As for the others, I think it was more of an influence thing rather than a thing regarding their individual personas. Before the incident I had done the scrim planning, recruiting, match planning, and I didnt delegate anything to anyone, so it was kinda off their balance. I do wish to apologize for the actions as well as comments posted to not only this team but also to the other team, BUT this does not excuse EITHER team from being at fault, nor the ETF2L Staff. There are things that could have been done on all ends to ensure things like this from happening, and we all expected as soon as the tournament started that something like this would arise, so please don’t act surprised. The team has had it rough ever since we headed into EU water. While I do agree with Lex that UGC has nice rules on things, this is NOT UGC. The rules can’t apply here as the UGC league as a whole spans across many nations whereas this is only a CUP that spans across nations. This leads to obvious complications that we saw here, and we did sign up for the trouble that would ensue. UGC does it differently in the sense that there are divisions for regions. That could not happen here, nor do I think it’s fair to pin it on the admins for it not being the same case. This was fun all in all, and we need to remember that this is only the start of a competitive log, and not the entirety of it. But my team beforehand was friendly, cooperative, and a hell of a lot more professional than this and I do, wholeheartedly, apologize for all of this. Especially UC’s and any comments that were made by other members on any communicative grounds. Sincere apologies.

66. Permzilla: (Legend) - (☞゚ヮ゚)☞ - WiK? said:

What in the hell?…

Obviously we can’t have two seperate Highlander Open tournaments for NA and EU, this was always one big tournament – we can’t have two winners after all (HLO was created/ran by Europeans and hosted on ETF2L and aimed at European teams – although other teams were welcome if they could play at European times on European servers). It was made quite clear. If an American ran something similar on UGC, the rules would be the same but in reverse I am sure.

Also I will try to clear this up once and for all (although I have already explained it):

“Even though this is a European centered event, we will welcome players from other regions with open arms. We will even try to place you into the same groups to ease the process of scheduling matches with your opponents. Against European opponents however, you will have to play on European servers at European times. The usual playing time for ETF2L matches is Sunday’s from 19:00-21:30 CEST. Make sure you are willing to (and can!) play at such times and on European servers before you sign up.”

This does not mean “If one team wants to play on Sunday then it is played on Sunday”. I am not 100% sure on the rules in UGC, but I know they have a default date on Monday which I think is confusing you. The system in ETF2L is not like that. If there are no proposals from either team and we have no available days to work with, the date will be set to Sunday. If we have proposals from 1 team and no response from the other, the default date will be set to the proposed day. If both teams propose dates and a suitable day is seen, that suitable day will be set as the default date. If both teams propose and there are no suitable dates, we will look at how many days each team can play. The team that has given more playing days will be given preference. That’s simply what happened in this match. Fruit Force can play 4 days, SS can play 2 days.

Those UGC rules apply for teams in the same region, UGC doesn’t place US teams in leagues with EU teams for obvious reasons, and neither do we . This is a cup and we can’t have a completely separate cup for US teams as I stated in my first paragraph.

We split the group stages completely into US and EU groups as much as possible, and I also seeded the knockout stages so US teams were all on the same side of the bracket – so there were as few US vs EU matches as possible. There’s nothing more I could have done to eliminate these US vs EU problems that inevitably occur.

We also have the same rules that you listed for UGC in our regular competitions, but as Sir Grey already explained those rules are already in place for this tournament, you just choose not to read them as they are aimed to benefit the EU teams since this is ETF2L and a tournament aimed at Europeans. Deal with it.

“So, in the future if you decide at any point that you want to do another tournament

A) At least try to respect the other teams
B) Look for convenient time for both teams
C) Try to be polite”

A) Who are the people respecting who here? I don’t have any respect at all for UC and some other members of your team for insulting admins, it’s laughable that you expect us to give you respect back.

B) We are looking for convenient times for both teams, if there a day that both teams can play we will set it to that. If there are not any overlapping days we will set the default date to the team who can play more available days. It’s not their fault the other team can only play 1 day (for example). This would apply even if an NA team had more days than an EU team, believe it or not.

C) Same as A. We’ll be polite to people who are polite to us, I’ve read most of the comments and chat logs of conversations with your team and I have to say that we have been extremely polite given the constant insults and harassment from you guys. I could very easily resort into a barrel of insults like some of you did, but I’m being polite.

Here are our rules on servers, so you may compare them with the UGC ones you posted.

5.1 Be reasonable regarding servers

Both teams can agree on the server which both maps are played on, or agree to play one map on each clan’s server. If you can’t agree to play either way then the game must be played on an ETF2L league server (please contact an admin to arrange this).

5.2 European server recommended

The ETF2L is a European League, you cannot force opponents to play on non-European servers. We strongly recommend using servers located central in Europe, such as the Netherlands or Germany.

Both of these are basically the same as the UGC ones in different wording.

Thank you MrHighway, it’s a shame you weren’t around to schedule this match.
