Write-protect cfgs?

I noticed that when I’m watching a demo someone has sent me, I’m automatically applying the person’s settings (binds and stuff). A mate told me that I should write-protect my cfgs, however it seems that I’m too dumb to do that. How does one do that on XP? Or is there any other way to avoid it?
Go to your tf2/cfg folder, right click on config.cfg and click on Properties. In the Attributes section make sure that Read-only is ticked, then click OK.
Omg how could I not have seen this. Thanks alot mate.
