Some lag problems

About a week or two ago I just started getting lots of choke and loss in some servers, some servers I don’t get any but I still get some strange lag where I bounce from side to side as I walk. I get very good pings to eu servers and even when I’ve had pings of ~20 I’m still lagging.
I just played now and played for one map without a problem and then half way through the second map it started again. I think it could be someone on my network running downloads or whatever, but the fact I have absolutely no ping problems confuses me.
I’m using a cable so no wireless problems and I’ve tried changing rates, I’ve checked for viruses, defragged my game and verified. I’m at a loss for what it is.
Anyway, I’ve got no real technical knowledge so i thought I’d ask the people who might. someone help me out please!
Oh and one extra thing I’ve noticed, I keep getting disconnected from steam every now and then, I’ll come back from being afk an hour and then see I’ve gone offline 6-7 times in that hour.

I’m assuming you are maintaining an FPS which is enough to satisfy both cl_updaterate and cl_cmdrate, and your cl_interp value is low?

Sounds like you might be getting packet loss, or your router is acting up.
I spent an hour or so faffing around with all those things and nothing changed. I get around 60-70 fps when I play. One of my teammates thought that could be the reason for the lag with no loss or choke, but I couldn’t fix it even after trying it high, low and in between.
Need more help please
