When I record a movie using PldX movie recording tool, compile/encode it to a .mp4 file, I get this when I want to play it in VLC or WMP:

Anyone knows what causes this?
A friend, with also win7 on his PC played exactly the same movie, but plays it without problems at good quality.

I tried to install a h264 codec already, but it didn’t change anything.
Other .mp4 movies (for example the Yoyotech fragvid I downloaded) do play without any problems on my pc.

Looks like a lack of keyframes. I haven’t had the problem myself, so I can’t give you a pointer at how many keyframes pr sec is recommended, but i’d advice trying and export with plentiful to see if it makes a difference.

You set the number of keyframes in your export options

That definitely looks like keyframe misdetection, not used PLDX, so not sure how to rectify it.

I get that too, I think it’s just because VLC can’t handle such big files (or my laptop isn’t up to playing them back). They’re fine once uploaded to youtube.

I got that when playing meatshot vol 1 on wmp. The file works fine with other players.

I’ve never had a problem with VLC playing back >5GB files, and I can’t imagine these would go anywhere near that sort of size.

It occurs to me that maybe this is a codec misdetection resulting in some problems.

My little video is about 10mb, so it can’t be about the size. ;)

Never worked for me either. I just throw stuff into Sony Vegas and render as a new file type.

To be honest, PLDX is quite buggy, it doesn’t detect FPS changes very well, and the end result often has varying offsets along the way because of that.

FRAPS (w/ lossless RGB capture) is still really the better choice when it comes down to it, but it isn’t free.

Hmm yeah, it is quite buggy. I get “hl2.exe is not responding” 50% of the time I start it with this tool. :(
