Firstly, sorry if this is the wrong forum section, feel free to switch it to off topic or anything. Secondly, I’m in a desperate state here, otherwise a wouldn’t have posted a random problem of mine here in the etf2l forums. My computer doesn’t seem to recognize my LaCie LaCinema Premier (external harddisk) anymore. I’ve googled but haven’t really found a solution. I already tried different ports, computers and cables, and tried everything what Windows Support said. Most of you will probably think the thing is broken, but I don’t want to accept that I’ve lost 500gb of .avi, .jpg, .mp3 and other personal stuff :(. There must be a solution, as my pc notices that something is plugged in, however it can’t find out what. Here’s a screen: http://img693.imageshack.us/img693/1781/hdde.jpg
I would more than appreciate if anyone had a solution because it’s a pretty common problem afaik.
Try go to start -> and search for “computer management”. Then click on storage -> disk management and find the disk and change the driveletter
uhm, what do I have to do when I’m in the Disk Management ?
You should be able to see the drive. Then right click on it and change the drive letter
If you can plug it into a mac. They’re good at that type of thing.

I had an issue with a similar drive that needed replacing after displaying the same faults. For some reason Windows7 stopped recognising it.
If you don’t have a Windows XP PC to test with, you can use VMWare to install a Virtual Machine on your PC. http://www.vmware.com/products/workstation/
Install that, use your Windows XP CD to create a Virtual Machine – will be done in 30mins or so and you should hopefully find it works that way or isn’t completely destroyed.

I only see my two build-in harddisks and the cd-rom/dvd drive :/

Will do that at the weekend.
Could remove it from the enclosure, if it’s not one of those magically sealed ones, that seem to have no way of opening them, and plug it in via SATA into your PC
Worked on an old external I had which borked, enclosure still didn’t work though, so just bought a new one :P
–Edit
It was genuinely old, not sure if it’d work with a newer external

Cheers for all your replies. I managed to save everything as I took the harddrive itself out the ‘box’ and plugged it into my computer as a third local disk :) Basically, thanks alot Cloud :p
