So 4 days ago ima waking up and power up the pc.Gateway screen apears as usual (it takes 3 min to load this time, and its usualy taking less than 10 sec). Then the following error apears (well it isnt exactly what it says, but almost): “Insert a proper boot system, if not, restart and select a proper Boot device”.
Hm so as 3 day passed I was getting nervous and decided that the HDD was the fault of this.My uncle helped me and we bought another HDD, but now I dont know if I should install XP (for free) ,buy vista (idk price) or buy windows 7 (120 dollars).
So thats the story incase you wanted to know everything, now im asking you to tell me if I should buy W7 (or install XP) and if it will work with the following pc (im going to sumarize it fast):
-Intel Core I7 920
-ATI 4850 HD
-3gb DDR3
-Previously runed on Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit
Every sugestion is welcomed – Thanks 7alfa
Update:VISTA ULTIMATE YAAAAA

xp is fine if u dont care about dx10 gamers and ram limiti to 3.25
i suggest if u want to put vista or 7 to buy 1 or 2 gigs of ram in addition coz they eat a lots of memory
xp unless u want dx10 and problems that come with w7 bugs
Unless you buy more ram, XP tbh, if you get more than 3 gigs at any time in the future, or are going to, win7 64 bit
Stop being xp fanboys :D
You can get Windows 7 pretty cheap with student deals.
But tbh who the hell ever paid for an OS?
I would say give win7 a try if you have the money and want a new OS (I am sure there are free ways to gain this ;) )
However if you are happy with it stick with xp. Its a perfectly fine OS and unless you want to make the most from dx10 and future dx11 (which I believe you need a new gfx card for) youll need win7. Vista being a steaming pile of rejection :P
Check out Win7. It really is sooo much better than vista. However if you already have XP and aren’t bothered, then theres really no reason not to stick with it.
Does xp handles my pc config so that tf2 is at max settings? On vista I was gettin @ 350 fps with all settings at maximum (yes I dont like fps configs , I like playing the game raw without modifying anything)

You may be able to fix your old disc btw
load from yourt OS disc recovery console and do a “chkdsk” to check the disc for errors, then do a “fix mbr” which fixes and boot problems.
You can also do a repair and install (re-installs os pretty much but keeps ur stuff so you can use it and back up and files u need to before re-formattings)
You got rad 0? Or just 1 disc on its own.
Or with that new harddrive id say install XP (vista is wank)and use your old disc as a slave and you can probably get files from it still

Fairy muff, in that case i'd install XP, unless you like the prettyness of vista, if you do get windows 7 ;).

almost any game will perform better on xp than vista/w7… only few of the new games are optimized for w7
as for the rly new games, w7 will defo have advantage of the i7 and getting more juice out of it… so w7 is better for long shot, while xp has better performance for games that are out for a while

Yea im gonna go for xp anyways…the only new game I have is modw2 so I dont think it matters that much…
Games aren’t optimised for OS’s…

Yes, they might perform by like 10% better on XP, but unless your computer is a complete piece of shit (which it isn’t 7alfa) its hardly a consideration. Bassically like Tapley said, if you think Win7 looks better, then get it for that. Otherwise XP is fine. Performance in games is so marginally different its not even worth considering.
If I try to install xp I get the blu screen of death :D…guess im just going to dl vista ultimate
