“An issue with your computer is blocking the VAC system. You can’t play on secure servers..”
When I play TF2 for certain amount of time, from 10 to 60 minutes, I get kicked out of the server, and I get this message above. I re-launch TF2. Can’t fix the problem.
I go to Dota2, the same message occurs.
I launch Steam. It reappears after the same amount of time, 10-60mins. It first occurs always in TF2, never in Dota2. And only way to fix it temporarily is to relaunch Steam. I have read https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2117-ILZV-2837, and tried every solution.
When I try those command prompt solutions, such as “bcdedit” commands, I get this: ‘bcdedit’ is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

Maybe if those cmd commands worked I could fix the problem, but first. I need assistance how to make “bcdedit” commands to work.

+ Appears in CS:GO, but not in Dota 2.

for how long has it been like this?

Verify cache files or smth similar, update steam and re-launch it. (You can try the new beta) remove those temporary files from game folder.
This usually fixes itself automatically and is annoying as fuck when happens

Bumping.
Deleting whole steam folder and reinstalling it.
See if it works.

I had this recently and the steamservice /repair answer worked. You just have to find the file (use Windows search) and then run->cmd and type the full path or cd to that directory (maybe need to run as administrator, so find windows->accessories->msdos prompt and right click, run as admin).

I’ve helped so many people fix this recently (myself included). Seems really common.

Not sure why people cannot google though.

“Enable DEP

Data Execution Prevention (DEP) must be enabled to play on VAC secured servers. To restore DEP settings to default please follow the steps below:

Exit Steam.
Click the Start button, then ‘All Programs’, and ‘Accessories’
Right-click on Command Prompt and click “Run as administrator…”
– Please note if you are running Windows 8 you will need to press Windows Key + X and select Command Prompt (Admin)
In the command prompt, type the following command and press Enter:
bcdedit.exe /deletevalue nx
Restart your computer.
Launch Steam and test the issue again.”

In addition stick these in the cmd pressing enter after each one:

bcdedit /deletevalue nointegritychecks
bcdedit /deletevalue loadoptions
bcdedit /debug off

Then restart your computer.

Got that 3 times in the past and pretty much everytime I needed different method to fix it. No idea why.

First time the /repair thing worked.

Second time this worked:
*Exit Steam
*Delete folder /appcache/
*Open Steam

And the last time only enabling DEP worked.

Hello :)

If you’ve tried all solutions from this page already: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2117-ILZV-2837&l=english I believe this to be an external app that’s causing it. Understand that this system is crashing because of an external app/external factor interfering with the VAC system, so this error is very generic. If you completely reinstalled your Windows and only installed drivers the issue would most likely not be there. Point being: Check what you have running in the background, and see if anything matches the conflicting software list here: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9828-SFLZ-9289 (The ones marked with a green * is the one you should look out for). I can highly recommend using process explorer, to get a clear overview of what you have running: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-ie/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx

As a long shot, you could also try running a chkdsk /f /r /b to see if it finds anything. Maybe the filesystem is damaged in such a way, steam won’t function correctly.

After reinstalling the games and testing, the message appeared again..

Checked my processes after I got the message. I didn’t found many softwares that are said to interfere with vac. (https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9828-SFLZ-9289)

Hey man. You should know that IOBit software is largely incombatible with VAC’s system for some reason. I believe that Startmenu_hook/IOBit startmenu is the cause of your issue.

These guys had the same issue, and was using the same software: https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/611696927932589956/

I had this problem every other day for a while but it stopped when I got rid of the gazillion .net and C++ redistributable packages I had installed. Before that I went through all the steps in this thread and it solved the problem, but it soon returned after that.
