heya around,

Currently, after a clean reinstall of both Windows & TF2, I get xx fps on average – as long as I have -dxlevel 81 set in my launch options. My Steam overlay doesnt work tho. Whenever I remove said dxlevel from launch options, my fps drop by ~200 to yy, which makes it unplayable for me, I do get a working overlay tho.

I’d like to have both decent fps AND the overlay, any advice?

screenshots that may help you?

with dxlevel in launchoptions: http://i.imgur.com/Uyqaw4C.jpg

without dxlevel in launchoptions: http://i.imgur.com/pBtYQ2Q.jpg

please help me!

cheers kr4tos

Question:
Are you complaining about playing with about 200 fps?
Because I play with 50-60 average perfectly, lol

Not trying to be harsh or anything, but genuinely curious about what bugs you with 200 fps

Hello

Go and fiddle with your driver graphic settings. I’m sure you properly configured something before in your drivers, that made it run that way. Most people would for example set everything to “performance mode” inr their drivers (Deactivating v-sync, textures on low quality e.g)

Popcorp

I noticed that sometimes FPS are good with High textures instead of Low textures, most likely because Video card does not support low textures or something, basically i dont see any difference in FPS with High, medium or Low textures, which is strange tbh

Btw, any ideas how does Texture Filtering affects FPS?

Mits

Finally found someone with the same problem as me :D

I share your pain kr4tos, with the most recent drivers i just can’t have both the overlay and high fps. For me, if i switch to old drivers (i believe 296.xx, so im talking about nvidia cards here) the overlay works and the fps drops aren’t as massive. Hope it helps :D

if you have a nvidia gpu go to the driver settings for tf2, and find an option where you can prefer quality, performance etc in general. (i’m sry, forgot the correct name :P)

chose performance :)

Hello good sir.. I think LOD BIAS, should be 0 by default. It’s only if you start seeing flickering textures and stuff like that, you would put it to anything over 0. At least that’s what LOD BIAS was many years ago.. long time since I’ve fiddled with that setting :)

btw, Ambient occlusion should also be set to “OFF” if you desire the most possible FPS.

Anisotropic filtering should be off
Anisotropic optimization should be off
Antialiasing should be off
Powermanagement mode should be set to performance
Vertical sync should be off
Trillinear optimization should be off

oh yeah, and btw, make sure “multi core rendering” is activated in team fortress 2 advanced options.
